[ZR1] Suspension control knob problem for all ZR1s...

Hey Scott, I’m pullin’ the Z out of the garage tomorrow for the first spring “ride” , so I’ll check to see if my Z works the same as your ZR (most likely it does).

When it's daylight the lights automatically shutoff, by design. However, if you manually turn on the headlamps during the day the ride control selector does not illuminate because, wait for it,...it's not the headlamps. In other words, the car is smarter than you are.
This sounds like "Let's see if I can make something not work the way *I* think it should so I can complain about it".
During the daytime you can see the ride selector without it being illuminated. If not, then perhaps you shouldn't be driving because clearly your eyesight is poor.

Hey smart ***... next time you get in your car let me know if you can tell what mode it is on tour or sport when you have you lights on during daytime.... and applying your logic why you can not see it when you have your headlights off on auto and daytime, and you can when you turn them on...
what an idiot.

Ok, I can confirm that my Z06 w/MagRide/PTM works as described in this thread…the MagRide/PTM dial indicator light does in fact go off when you switch the headlights on manual during daylight.
However, I don’t really see it as an issue. Since the C6 has DRLs, under what circumstance would I want to switch the headlights onto manual operation during daylight driving?
I honestly can’t see where this indicator light function or lack thereof would ever cause me trouble.

I don't think I have ever toggles my light switch in manual mode.
It's been on automatic since the day I got it.

^ ...as the headlights are also activated by the wipers (when the lights are set to auto), I would suspect the
suspension control **** would also remain dimly lit under such circumstances
EDIT: apparently not correct; see observation in post # 55...

Whether it causes "you" a problem isn't the point or the issue.
You or I may find a reason to use our lights manually as VasMan pointed out with fog conditions, or just because you feel like having your lights on. For any reason you should be able to turn your headlights on without losing another function of your car.
My question is, "Is there any good reason for the switch to go black while you're operating your car?"
If no reasonable answer exists for this, don't you think it should be addressed and fixed?
It's pretty annoying if you ever do flip the headlight switch on and all of a sudden the lights go black on the suspension ****. It's kind of like if your fog lights go black, or your map lights go out...it's no big deal because you'll never really "need" them anyway, they're just a convenience you paid for when you bought the car but you do expect them to work. You don't expect them to shut off when you turn your headlights on.
Something so simple shouldn't go array, it makes me question the more complex parameters of the MSRC system. Owners that paid a substantial premium for the cars we drive shouldn't just settle for what seems like a simple programming error.
"This issue, although relatively small and simple should be addressed and fixed...end of story"

Here is what it should be doing guys:

I would walk up to your SA with this video and show it to him/her 3LZZ06

I have the same issue and posted about it soon after I got my car. No responses, so figured no one cared and I went on ignoring the annoyance. Glad someone finally got responses on this topic... subscribed.

Please make another video except have your car out in the sunlight and you'll see what we're talking about. It would be great if you could re-post a new video for us...
I'm sure you have the exact problem that the rest of us have, and unfortunately there nothing a service adviser will be able to do (at this point) because it seems to be a inherent programming error for Vettes with MSRC, including all ZR1s.

All of our cars "in dark conditions" do exactly what you've shown on the above video.

Ah ok. I'll get out there now and get a video for you

This video shows what "cannot" be fixed unless GM acknowledges the problem and implements a programming correction for the fix.
I did send a PM to our forum rep from GM on 3/15/12:
