Has Anyone Painted The Roof Of Their ZR1?
I will soon be the proud owner of a 2009 ZR1. I have had two C6 Corvettes and most recently a 2011 GT500. All of them I had custom painted. Would painting the carbon fiber top of the ZR1 ruin the value?

Based on nothing else but my personal opinion, I would say it would diminish the value somewhat. The exposed carbon fiber is one of the signature features of the car. If you intend to do this, I would suggest you pick up a painted regular C6 roof (and halo) and replace the c/f parts. Keep the stock parts unpainted and reinstall if you decide to sell it in the future.

Excellent Advice IMHO

Just wrap it, that way it can be removed without damage to the original look...
Most people except for jas really like the look of the CF, but it's all about choice.

Just vinyl the car and be done with it. That way when you sell it you can remove it if the owner doesn't like it. I think a matte orange, red, or white would look awesome.

I forgot about wraping. That the best and cheapest

Someone else asked this same question a good while back. This yellow ZR1 has a vinyl wrap top. It used to be around Lawrenceville, Ga. but no clue where it went when it sold. I think it looks goodand can easily be removed if you want to.

Agree with others on the vinyl wrap; if you're going to change the color that's the way to go. Fully reversible.

I would never do that to my ZR1. The paint used to allow the carbon fiber to be exposed is crazy expensive as everyone knows. But as always, that is your car and your choice. Just remember resell value....

I would not buy a ZR1 if the roof was painted. Unless the price could pay for it to be replaced.
It's part of what makes the R1 special.
I would guess most people would agree.
Like already stated, do what you like to your ride but balance the resale value.
I wrapped the roof on my Z06 and liked it.
Funny thing is I liked the look of the ZR1 and made it black.

Does anyone know what a standard roof and halo cost? I will take off the the carbon fiber pieces and replace them with the new painted pieces. Then it can always be put back to stock.

I think you'll need a Z06 roof since that one is fixed/bolted on like the ZR1. I have a 6 month old price sheet that shows a Z06 roof (GM # 19152839) at approx. $840 list price & the halo (GM # 15802977) at about $667 list. You may be able to get them cheaper if you have a good relationship with your GM parts dept. or maybe a forum vendor, even ebay.
The ZR1 CF roof lists at $3713 & the halo at $2384. Pretty expensive to be painting over... You're on the right track if you have your mind made up to paint them, keep the originals & get replacement panels to paint.
