[Z06] any 3.90 or 4.10 gears coming soon for c6z diff
#382
I had a spare low mileage C6 Z06 diff in reserve if this one was damaged.
The case itself was inspected and checked, as well as the carrier (diff) before it was decided to go ahead and put the gears in my original diff (90K miles on it). I had always planned on putting new updated carbon clutch packs in, and it was during that process that the broken spider gears and cross pin were discovered.

Gear, labor and seals is $1,400.00 if you ship us your differential.
I don't believe they are going to be making a Z06 3.73 unfortunately.

So what parts are necessary to change out other than the gear set? Where is a good source for a Z06 seal, bearings, an shim kit? Is a Z06 kit the same as a base?

Way too many special tools, Z06 and base diffs are NOT the same. The spline count on the transmission output shafts are not the same. I pulled my diff and took it to RTK in Fredrick MD. I don't know where you are at so shipping may play into it. I'm very happy with mine, car says high 23 low 24 mpg on the highway, running through the gears is a blast. If I ever get nailed for speeding it will be because of third gear, THE passing gear.
FYI
This is how the ring & pinion are in our cars. The front of the car is to the left. The long output shaft goes over the differential then engages the pinion gear. With the pinion above the centerline of the differential it makes for a rather odd pinion, since it is not on the centerline like you may have see in a regular rear end. In addition the ring gear count stays the same (3.42, 4.10), so the entire tooth form must change to match the number of teeth on the pinion. The speed pickup is reading the number of teeth on the ring gear so nothing changes here.
I just set it up for a picture, the pinion may be in the wrong location.

Melting Slicks
Mike 44665 - did you notice a big change in acceleration when you went to 3.90s and is there any gear noise?
#391
Yes a big change, first gear is red lined very quickly.
They are quiet, RKT does good work.
I changed diff lube at 500 miles, ran 1,000 and changed it again. A little darker than normal first time, just fine the second time. Really never pushed it hard till after 1,500 miles. You can now use sixth gear, not so many 6 to 5 shifts cruising the back roads now.
Very happy.

I am in California. Who would be a good choice to have my factory rear re-geared? I see RPM can do it to the tune of $3500 BUT they are installing a lot of other high dollar stuff. I want just a simple gear, seal, shim swap.

Just got a quote fro Rick at RKT for $2000. Disassemble/inspect/clean/have micro polished 3.90's installed, new seals, an return shipping. I am gonna do this mid to late February.

400-450 rwhp cars are known as drivetrain breakers.... People drive them too hard trying to make them fast.
500+ rwhp cars rarely break becuase you have to finess the car to make it work.
This has come from years of working with C5/C6 drivetrain.
We have over a hundred of C6 diffs in C6 Z06 cars. I personally have a 3.90 in my Z. We have a very low number of them come back broken, and those that do know they were abusing the differential.

Is the C6 diff stronger than the C5 diff?
And how do C5/C6 diffs compare in strength with the C4 D44?
