Default 2013 shelby 0-60?

the 2013 Shelby aren't just the monstrous increase in horsepower from 550 hp to 662 hp with 631 ft-lbs of torque, making the 'Stang capable of a 0-60 mph time of just 3.7 seconds. i got this info on yahoo.com a stock z is faster i think?

I think once you get to the 500+ hp range, I don't think it's more hp that gives you a faster 0-60 time. Marc L.

The 2013 has launch control, and is supposed to work well.IMO I would give a slight edge to the GT500 in a strait line over the Z06.

This article has the 662 hp rustang at 11.7 quarter and 3.7 zero to 60

http://autos.yahoo.com/blogs/motoram...044439333.html

Latest z06 road test i have handy is december 2008 for a 2009 model yr.
from card and driver -- 0-60 = 3.6 seconds and the quarter is 11.7 at 124mph.

Would be interesting to see the stangs 0-150mph time - is the extra horses going to over come the aerodynamics of a barn door.

z06 is 17.3 zero to 150mph.

More power only helps with one problem in a 3850lb car, they should've put it in a heavy diet and solved more than one problem at the same time.

The true test will come when guys start putting slicks/drag radials on them. The Z06 has gone 10's bone stock. I don't think the GT500 will beat that.
On a side note, I had a '12 5.0 with a supercharger that consitently ran 10.70's. The car made around 550 rwhp and there were modded GT500's at the track with over 600 rwhp that could not run any faster than 11.20's. My point is, it's going to be tough to launch that kind of power and actually get it down the track. I may be wrong but I think the Z06 will edge out the GT500.

Motor Trend and their crappy rev the engine and dump the clutch drivers just got the SHELBY to run 0-60 in 3.5 secs and 1/4 mile in 11.6 @ 126 mph.......

Guys, this car IS the real deal....for a 4 seater (albeit somewhat uncomfortably) 3,850 lb behemoth, this car is going to be THE trend setter for the foreseeable future.

My bet is that we'll see VERY low-11's on stock rubber and high-10s on stickies once some people get some seat time.... Who knows, we miggghhhhhht see the 10s cracked on stock rubber.

HP's really not that expensive of a thing to do with blowers. Engineering 700 lbs out of a Mustang platform, would probably be 10 years of it's whole model lines production run. Not intended to be a Vette, and never will be.

So funny to me.... "not a Vette" huh? Well, that's true in the most basic sense. However, what exactly do you mean by that? I guarantee you your heart will pound a tad when one runs up on you on the street/track, regardless of what you drive. These cars will be to the modern era of sports cars what the '03/'04 Terminators were back then as you will NEVER really know what each player is bringing to the table! Once the aftermarket catches up with these things, there's gonna be 9 sec capable Shelbys prowling the streets on a regular basis....

I bet that's one well-built, reliable engine in that Mustang. Probably could take more boost with no problem. I think the MSRP on a no option car is only 55k. Sounds like a good deal.

Don't see anything funny about this, as lots more to chassis development than 1/4 mile and straight line street racing. A 3150 lb high powered aluminum chassis factory car, pegging your cheeks to the pillars in turns, meeting all federal safety standards and such. What else is there.

I agree. I'm a fan of muscle cars, doesn't matter who makes 'em. The new Shelbys look really good and no doubt they have the muscle. One nice thing in their arena is the vast multiitude of mods made for them.

All I have to say is this: I have been a mustang owner/driver since I was 15. I stood true to the pony and never would take a second look at getting into a camaro or vette....UNTIL I drove a good friend of mines modded FRC. I was hooked. Needless to say, the Shelby looks great and FINALLY matches our cars in a STRAIGHT LINE. It took 8 years of production to do it stock for stock. The kicker is this, it will take another 10 grand in suspension and chassis upgrades from a manufacturer like Maximum Motorsports to even think about keeping up with us on a circuit track. It goes without saying that in all around performance, the ZO6 takes the cake. I give ford props for coming out with a great vehicle that does well in one single aspect of performance (that we know of), but it just isn't the same caliber of all around performance vehicle as the ZO6 is.

First of all they are not the same price.Secondly the Shelby at 3850 pounds was never meant to be a z06 s competitor on an oval track.Make no mistake about it,the 662 h.p Shelby will be a killer in a quarter mile drag race.Sticky drag radials and tens becomes but a formality for this horsepower and torque monster.Yes it weighs 700 pounds more but with 662 h.p and 631 lbs/feet of torque that weight difference is easily erased. And then some .Power to weight big advantage to the Shelby!Stop hating on a car that will be very impressive regardless who builds it.
