I am still wondering why you ordered a new Z06 and turn around and post a thread like this...

Your getting the final year 427 Z06....these cars are going to history books in LESS than a year....I'd be FRIGGIN HAPPY....

Default Ls7engine issues

I have a 2013 aniversary convertable with 3600 miles i had a problem at 2000 miles with a hot start the engine would labor as if the battery was dieing.let the car cool down over nite ,it would start right up.i finally took the car back in to the dealer and let them take another look. Got a call the next day they are putting in a new engine under warranty and along with a badly worn clutch. Has any one had this issue

What year Z did you order? What are your plans with the car, mods etc? IMO if it has a warranty leave it stock and enjoy and if you keep it awhile get an extended warranty then enjoy it some more. If you have to mod it then choose your comfort level of the choices on here for the "fix" after you educate yourself and call the respected engine builders on here...then enjoy the car more. No reason to worry either way.

Old thread, but I'll play...My 13Z would crank slowly when warm and just like yours when cold. After about 5k zero issues and I'm approaching 11k now...

Very few of us do that so if you aren't planning on pushing the car to the limit 20 days per year 4 times per day for 30 minutes at a time for 3 years straight you are very unlikely to have an issue.

I bought my 08 with 13.5K miles on it in Aug of 09. I put 10 track days on it in 09, 20 in 10 and was working on 14 or 15 in 11 with about 24K miles on the car when the head of the exhaust valve in number 1 cylinder fell off. GM warrantied the engine. The engine was completely stock right down to the original air filter.

It wasn't fun having that happen but the blast I received from the previous track days was well worth it. These cars are something else when you have your foot to the floor and they are accelerating towards 160 mph (7K rpm) in 4th gear.

Bill
Who told you that has nothing to do related to it, certainly has to with modded and unmodded vehicle def the heads will def need to come off and be checked, issues affect all the years on these vehicles but other than that the car is def track capable just needs maintainence, I'm on my 4th set of heads look up past posts and issues with heads...good luck dont turn the other way because of this issue enjoy the car...

I'm having the same issue with my 2013 427 anniversary convertible. GM is replacing the engine. Mine is actually a Callaway SC652, but GM stepped-up immediately and said they would replace the engine. Therefore, I don't believe it had anything to do with Callaway. I believe the cause was low oil pressure. You will note in the owner's manual that GM says normal oil pressure at idle is less than 10 psi.

I agree 100%. I visit a number of forums that are car related and some that are not. Seems you always hear about problems, but those that are trouble free you don't hear from.

This is an OLD thread! I did buy the Z, and now have 22,000 miles on it and am loving it. I learned a lot from the responses above and want to thank everyone on this great forum. I was tempted when the C7Z came out, but have decided to keep my "yellow beast!"

That is great, I like to hear success stories with our cars! I keep thinking I want a C7Z06, but I think I will wait a few more years to see if they get all of the issues sorted...like they did with the LS7...ha, ha.

OP I'd say you're fine here...my 3/36 just ran out and I purchased a 4yr GMPP from Dennis Fitchner (dealer on here) for peace of mind. You could always do the same.
Wow, someone revived this old thread and I saw this Mike

Yeah, funny how things change over time. I'm just glad I pulled the trigger on that GMPP as well as keeping an open mind and a willingness to listen to the findings of others here on the forum.

I also read that too "it's random but only affects about 3% of motors according to a very reputable corvette shop mechanic I know. So you can pay $3k to solve a problem that can potentially cost you $7k... in my opinion it's not worth paying to get them swapped since the odds are so low."

been looking for a c6 z06 for awhile, so the % is small huh maybe don't even need to worry/fix it?

to repair it do they just replace the parts? (any decent shops can do it or do I need to find a z06 specific shop)

If I don't fix it and it acts up, I guess the whole engine need to be replaced? price tag?

there is a 08 z06 with 12k miles, looks to be in pretty good condition, decisions decisons. anyways I will probably go to drag strip once awhile, some canyon runs and highway funs, that's about it. car should be good don't need to worry too much?

Way old thread.

It is WAY more than 3%, and way more than $7k to fix a mishap.

Yes you need to worry.
