GEIGER ZR1 0-62mph in 4.3s - A tad high?
Just finished reading a german autobild article (could not find it online) comparing a Geiger ZR1 with a MTM MP4-12C and a BROMMLER GT-R at the Sachsenring.
Reportedly the GEIGER ZR1 posted better track times but what really caught my attention were the 0-x times which have me scratch my head a bit and I was hoping for some real experiences and insights to verify this article's findings - 1/4 mile and standing mile experts are welcome!
So here are the times for the G-ZR1 rated at 730HP with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tires:
0-50 Km/h 2.2 s
0-100 Km/h 4.3 s
0-130 5.5 s
0-160 7.6
0-200 10.5 s
I'll spare you the details on the competition (times considerably lower) but find it kind of hard to see a 730HP ZR1 (Priced at $287K!!) posting a 0-62mph ONLY 1/10th better that a 0-60 (mph) from a 2005 C6 coupe - (as claimed by Chevy).
Granted I read a UK car magazine that could not do better that a 5.1 for a 0-62mph for a 2012 GS...
So I read the 1/4 mile list and the associated caveat.. to paraphrase: hard to match GM times/claims..
Is this it or do we need to teach our EU friends how to launch a US car?
Below is the quoted and Google translated Autobild rationale..
"why then still relatively long 4.3 seconds pass at 100 km / h? Because the more aggressive camber rear wheels fitted with the existing power in over abundance cannot be well dosed. And even the abrupt delivery on the semi slicks with direct snapping clutch complicates dosing.
In addition, shortly before 200 km / h even in the fourth gear comes a bit late...
So basically to paraphrase - too much power for the drive-train but still..4.3???

I doubt it's European friends not being able to launch a car. Auto Bild launched a stock ZR1 on PS2s to 100 kph in 3.2 seconds in its twin-test against the GT-R, which could only do it in 3.8s. Could be the track conditions and the additional camber for this one.
Is the suspension modified? Too stiff suspension could result in less weight transfer for a really good launch.

In this particular test the Brommler GT-R pulls a 3 for a 0-60. The MTM a 3.2. Dry asphalt.
Should have also mentioned that the Geiger sport cups are ZP...a big liability for this particular test?

Ah! I missed that in translation - thanks.
So far I gather that the coilovers and the associated stiffness is what "slows" the 0-62 then..
