Default Help analyze pass to go faster

Just picked up a 2009 black c6z 3LZ w/ 10,000 miles a couple weeks ago and this is my second time at the track. Planning on going back to the track this upcoming weekend to break into the 11.2xx's or faster. The first time I went to the track with the car (11/17/2012) my best was 11.87x, and the last time (11/18/2012) my best was 11.512, so I figure why not another three 10'ths.

Just submitted this to the fast list thread...

Year of the Z06: 09
Tires used on the pass: Stock Goodyear F1SC EMT (23psi rear / 40 psi front)
Performance Mods (if any): None
Category submitted for: Stock on stock tires
R/T..................3.671
60'...................1.854
330'.................5.033
660'.................7.555
660' mph.........98.37
1000'...............9.699
1320'...............11.512
1320' mph.......124.39
Name of the track: Great Lakes Dragaway
Date of pass: 11/18/2012 @ 5:23 PM
Weather conditions: DA -584 according to dragtimes DA Calc

Notes on pass:

1.) Was hot-lapping the car the entire day as I got to the track at 3:30PM. Kept going faster every pass. Coolant Temps on this pass was 219 degrees. (Thinking about getting a 180 deg thermostat, or would that take me out of the stock on stock tires class?)

2.) Launch RPM on this pass: ~3200 rpm, came out of the hole good but it bogged a little bit (didn't slip it quite long enough?)

3.)1st to 2nd shift: Could not get the tires to not spin the entire day. Any suggestions on the 1-2 shift? Didn't powershift, just a quick shift letting off the throttle.

4.)2nd to 3rd: powershift

5.)3rd to 4th: powershift

I feel like the time and mph is still on the slow side given the 60' and good weather conditions.

Any input would be great!

Thanks,

Nick

coolant temp is hurting you. keep it below 200 if possible. It starts pulling timing after 210 (I think thats the #)Don't power shift with the stock tires you'll get wheelspin which will slow you down, even the 2-3 shift. Your 60' is good. Keep at it and you should be able to get in the 1.7x's every so often if the track is sticky. Other than that 11.5 is a nice good run. Your driving doesn't seem to have a whole lot of room for improvement. Just watch those coolant temps, keep the rear tire psi around 25 and fronts at 40 or so. Rip off a couple 1.7x 60's and your in the 11.20's or 30's. Nice job....

What's the best way to keep the temps under 200deg? Is it possible to re-wire the fans to a switch to keep cool in the staging lanes and waiting at the line? Or is it best to just buy a 160/180deg thermostat?

Also, just checked my oil, engine is cold, and it is about 1cm below the lowest of the three dots on the dip stick The dash display says I have 32% oil life remaining.

BTW thank you for your insight!

Checking oil cold will not give an accurate reading. Car needs to be warmed up to oil temp of 175 degrees. Turn engine off, -- wait 5 minutes and no longer than 15 then check. -- If I check my oil cold it will display the same as yours(mine is a 2009). If I follow the procedure above, it is just a millimeter (C-hair) below the top hole. -- your pass is very good and is pretty close to what the december 2008 car and driver got on a 2009 z06 they road tested. -- 2009 z06's have the fastest 0-150 mph times of all years z06's I have seen road test reviews on

I also noted in your post above that you did not get tire spin - My Z is 100% stock on stock goodyr runflats. car was engaging traction control- spinning in 2nd and 3rd gear. temps were 60 degrees here in the midwest today.

Thanks for the info Mr. Gizmo That's interesting that 09's seem to be the stronger year? haha. We'll see. This saturday at GLD is supposed to be sunny, high 30's, and if there are enough cars running slicks and track prep is good... maybe an 09 will be at the top of the list haha.

BTW...Nice avatar pic. Do you have any more pics of your car? I've been contemplating upgrading to the comp gray spyder wheels. Currently have silver ones.
