Default Halltech Z06 Show Carbon Fiber Rear Quarter Panels All Prepreg

Halltech Carbon: How to lose 70 lbs:
OEM SMC panels primed not painted are 16lbs/pair. Halltech Show Carbon Quarters save 11lbs. Coupled with the Katech rear deck at -31lbs is -42lbs. Our roof/B-pillar carbon units save -14.4lbs, and our GT2 hood -13.2lbs

Default OEM panels +11.1 lbs

11.1lbs heavier than our all pre-preg carbon fiber rear quarters.

This is nice. But not needed I think. Something many people don't know or realize but chevy actually left the rear of the car not carbon fiber on purpose. They said if they put even a little amount of carbon fiber on the rear like a carbon fiber wing it would actually ruin the weight distribution which they found is the most optimal for performance. That is why they said the whole roof and front end is carbon fiber but they left the rear alone because they deliberately wanted to keep the rear heavier than the front.

The lighter the car and better it handles, accelerates, stops, and gets better fuel mileage.

Our car weighs 2815lbs right now and will weigh 2765 lbs when we get our Carbon Revolution CR-9 wheels onboard.

Our weight bias is exactly the same as the ZR1. 50.5/49.5 (No fuel 50/50 with fuel) vs. the stock Z06 at 50/50. That is simple to remedy with a slight adjustment in the rear shocks or fuel load.

Now think about the fact that the stock Carbon Z06 at 3300lbs would need 788 HP to equal our weight/power ratio of 4.19lbs/hp.

The whole roof and front end on the standard Z06 is not carbon fiber. Only the front fenders.

whoops didn't read this was for zo6s. I thought it was a zr1 thing. But if you were able to maintain the rear weight bias then thats fine I guess.

The ZR1 needs a weight loss program as well. Many members look for weight reduction wherever they can find it.

In the case of the ZR1, this amount of weight loss would not be that noticeable, but added to the Katech rear carbon deck, Lexan window, the doors and fascia would be all that is left not carbon fiber.

It is pretty easy to adjust the bias on our car, but I'm not sure on the ZR1 with the Magnetic shocks, leafs, etc. We junked all of that years ago for the adjustable Pfadt suspension.

No, that's the primer.

The process our painter uses clears everything, then colorsands the whole surface, then masks off the clear carbon areas and finally the JSB.

After that, color sanding and clear, then colorsanding and buff.

No palatable lines that way. Should be done tomorrow.

We are documenting some of the steps to show what can be done.

Our painters, TPS Paintworks in Menomonee Falls, WI can do your complete primer/clear areas and ship it ready for the final color match at your painters.

This will give you an idea of what we are accomplishing:

The old quarter panels are missing the continuation of the rear deck reveal. The new quarters will have this reveal continued.

Still coming up with a clear lens idea for the marker, with red LEDs and the carbon fiber background.

Next the dooors?

In the words of Dr. Leonard McCoy, "Dammit Jim."

I'm a Halltech fan boy. Jim's work is awesome. I love my CAI and super beehive.

As opposed to putting a suitcase in the trunk. Or driving around with a 150 lbs passenger. Or going on a diet and losing 15 lbs.

Idk. This is what Tadge said in a documentary. Not my words. I prefer an all carbon fiber car.
