Default From CTS-V to Z06

Sup all? First post. I currently own a 2010 white diamond CTS-V sedan that makes 605whp/630wtq on a mustang dyno. Decently modded, but stock cam.

I love the power but the car is a hog, I came from various v8 M3s, Evo's, and STI's. It's a great daily but I just miss having a true sports (or lighter) car that you can toss around in the corners. I've considered GTRs and other imports but this whole V8 American muscle sexiness has me hooked.

I've got a family so that is a concern, the V is a great daily, but my wife has an SUV.

My thinking is that I'd get an early model Z06 and a 06-07 Trailblazer SS for a daily in place of the V. Thoughts?

Anyone that has owned a V/z06 etc care to chime in?

Just a bit hesitant.. I don't want to miss the V even though it weighs like 5 tons. Can't deny the itch though, I've had the V for close to a year.

yeah I'm interested in the responses to this as well. I have an '08 Z06 and have been contemplating a switch to a CTS-V Coupe, and have been on the CTS-V forums asking questions.

Funny Adam. I just read your post over there. We should trade... Lol. No interest in a sedan for you?

My friend of a friend has a 2012 cts-v with a few mods and tune nothing major. I have a 09 z06 h/c/I supercharged 6psi. And he has been asking a lot to take him out. And
I finally did.
We went around to a private road not load and I did a 40-120 blast and he turns his head and goes wow!!! Omg!!! This car is insane.
I just laughed and did a few other bursts then took him hm. He had a wide grin from chin to chin. He said he liked his cts-v but my car is amazing. Pulls so hard.
He is now taking about getting a altima as a dd (kids, soccer stuff, dirt) and a z06!
He said he didn't think a car could go that fast and stop so quick.

Make sure you have good knees. I am sure the CTS-V is easier to get in and out of.

Should you decide to go with a Z, choose an '08 or up. The TR6060 trans is worth it. The steering response and road feel is somewhat anemic in the 2006 model. I do not recall if that was fixed in '07 or '08.

I've owned 2 z06s, one an 07 and my current h/c/i 08. I've owned a 2010 cts-v. And a 06 trailblazer ss. All fun vehicles. All completely different animals. I love my z06. My first one I left stock and absolutely loved driving it; however, when I bought my 08 I knew it was getting modded. I probably owned it for 4 months before we tore it down and did the top end swap. This car drivs like stock and is making 130+ hp than its stock baseline. The seats are lack luster but I feel like that's an easy replacement when I decide to upgrade to caravaggio.

When I had my 07 z my daily was a tbss. It was an awd model. It was one of my favorite suvs. Drove it everywhere. Actually kept it longer than any other daily that I owned before. There are some weak points with them though...the trans will die eventually. Either 2wd or awd. There are some things that you can do help the life. PCMforless sells a fantastic trans cooler kit for those vehicles. The other first mod is swapping the mechanical fan for an electric fan and again pcmforless is the ticket.

I just sold my cts-v a month ago after owning it for 8 months. While it doesn't seem like that's long, it is for me. It is a fun car but a totally different animal than the z. It's a great daily and I had fun with it, but as far as hauling stuff it just didn't suit my needs. I hesitated to sell it but I kept thinking I have a z06 in the garage. I don't really have many complaints with the cts-v other than the Recaros are awful for daily and I would opt for a 6 speed trans vs an auto

I don't work legs much anymore (not at all hard to tell) but that brings back memories. Squats are the best....and the worst. Combined with a lowered Z that could be brutal.

Great looking CTSV !!

I have really enjoyed my 08' Z06. I DD mine, great mpg on trips too! This is my 1st V8 Sports car, I came from many STi's, 13' Evo, S2000, BMW 135i , BMW 335, Nissan 350Z, Scion FRS. It's nice Corvette has kept focus of lightweight for Great power to weight ! So many cars now and just soo heavy...I was happy to run 12.1 120mph on stock run flats and nice 7.0L platform Beast!

I love the TQ whole Rpm band, crisp handling and really stays planted in the corners. Seats aren't too bolstered - but flip side comfy for long trips!

Good luck !

White Diamond- Excellent Choice! I had a V as well and went to the Z06. Seems like every week this thread comes up and everytime it's the same response: DO IT! You won't miss the V!

Not really sure how you can compare these cars together at all. They are so far apart in every way. Serve totally different purposes and types of drivers. A Z is for someone that has no family or it will be a weekend fun car and wants that purist driving experience. The V is for a family person that still wants to have power and refinement. The Z has zero refinement. SO it is really about what you like as far as a driving experience and of course how fat your bank roll is.

Had both black diamond cts-v and 07 z06. Cts was a great daily and fun to drive but ****** gas mileage. Z was much more nimble and fun to drive fast and a great time trial car. Ifi could only have on. It would be the z. If I need to haul kids I'd gt a cheap alt car for the kids.

I had been considering selling the Z to get a V but these threads have made reconsider that and I ordered some forgestars for the Z lol. I'd still like to drive a V just to see what's it all about though.

Ive never owned a CTS-V but have driven a couple and put them through their paces. Both were heavily modded making just over 600rwhp like yours. The torque is scary in the V. I think most underestimate a car that heavy can move that fast. BUT, my Z06 makes 530rwhp and weighs 800lbs less... Scary is not a good word. Insane power. I cant imagine anymore and I did light mods, just a tune, ported intake/throttle body, SMALL cam, springs and CAI. Thats it. Basically just port work and a cam. So, by what you describe, the Z with mods is what you want. No back seat though..

When I sold my Z I was really thinking about a CTSV sedan to but I just couldn't see myself being satisfied with it being my fun weekend car. But they look so nasty it was hard to not get one. I'd keep your Z unless you really need back seats
