Default Anybody know how this happened?

Some are saying because they are drilled/slotted. I don't buy it!

OP, you realize these are Carbon Ceramic rotors, not steel, yes?

And I agree, it looks like a wheel failure.

Autotrader had a recent article on why used cars with carbon ceramic brakes are going to be a "plague" to their resale value due in large part to their exorbitant price of maintaining the brakes.

What does the rest of the car look like? It should give a clear indication of what happened. Wheel failure, collision, theft/vandalism...just speculation until we see the bigger picture. The 12 o'clock stress fracture could've easily been from the forcible damage below.

It looks like the car could have slide off the road, maybe hit a curb and wiped everything out dragging on the rotors once the wheel snapped.

I totally agree that this will be an issue. Older ZR1s that were driven are selling in the 50s, which is only 20K more than the average new car. There are a limited percent of people in that range are willing to spend thousands of dollars just to replace brakes.

I disagree with the statement about the brakes if you are not tracking the car. Fact is, for normal street driven cars you may never have to replace the rotors. The pads are not all that expensive, no more so than any other high end car.

I'm thinking the car went of the track hit a blockade. The hit tore off the front wheel. And the car skidded on the track till hitting the grass. The studs are brand new. Like they are being replaced.

Where'd the wheel go?
Did it leave prior to the disc failure? If so, no surprise the disc is sh*t!
