Default C6 Z06 Roof Removal Help

Hello I'm swapping in a zr1 carbon roof & halo into my C6 Z06. Does anybody know where I can find a good diy post with instructions and photos? I looked for hours and couldn't find this. I found a good diy for removing the halo (which I'll need to do too). Just nothing for how to remove the roof itself. Big thanks!

The ZO6 top is installed at the factory AS A STRUCTURAL MEMBER OF THE VEHICLE. It is not designed to be removed. I'd forget the matter, myself.

You are correct. You are removing it to REPLACE it with a new roof with exactly the same frame, but with a carbon fiber skin. It is as strong or stronger than the original panel. A fairly straightforward job, the biggest challenge being the removal and installation of the visors. Be careful to check shims at the back of the roof to make sure new roof is aligned properly.

Its in a GM service bulliten i saw it when searching before I had my recall done. its straight foward I remember that new hardware is required and the bolt holes must be tapped because of the epoxy at the factory.

Does the replacement roof have the magnesium frame installed? If not you will need to debond the frame from the removed roof and install it on the new one. The adhesive required is special to the process. The body shop at your local Chevy dealer should be a good source for the removal/replacement procedure.

As stated above removal of the sun visors is the tricky part.

So the roof delamination recall on Z06 way back when instructed dealers to remove the roof and replace it?

Initially when the roof began to show signs of de-bonding GM's instructions were to rebond the roof using an improved bonding agent.

When this process proved to be inadequate GM then decided to direct replacement of all roofs.

Vendors are missing an opportunity. A re bonding kit for Z06 with noise in the roof, or something like that!!
