Default Stock Replacement Lifters

Here is what I am going to doing. I am going have my heads done by American Heritage. I will keep the cam stock but I want to replace my lifters with an direct OEM replacement. On a different post I asked about Comp Cams lifters, replies stated there are better lifters. I am not familiar with the different lifters outside of Comp Cams, if you could provide part numbers for the different lifters that would be a direct replacement for the stock lifters that would be great? Someone said COPO , is this a GM lifter?

If youre having your heads done by American Heritage, just order them through them. That's what I did. They came the same time as the heads and were priced better than I could find anywhere else.

Just buy stock GM lifters. They're fine for what you're doing with stock cam. They're also fine for a lot more than that.

Katech sells the High speed lifters. Was told they add 200rpm in terms of safety for valve bounce at high RPM. They are on their website. But for what you're doing just OEM will be fine.

New ls7 lifters are fine and $140 for a set of 8. Just put new OEM lifters in it.

If not having any noise why remove them from the bores at all?
Stock lifters seem fine for a stock cam, great match.
Only when going up on lift does it seem like you need a slightly better bleed down control due to higher spring tension.

Even then stock lifters are great for most people. I talked to a lot of places and shops, and landed up with stock ls7 lifters on my build, and budget wasn't an issue. No issues at all with stock ls7 lifters, but my cam is also fairly mild, 230/246 LXL LXL.

We have been told down here in new zealand that Johnson lifters are the best made USA brand lifter , and i must admit i have never had any problems with dozens of small block chev and ford motors we have built over the years , and they are making a special lS 7 lifter with a minute hole squirting the roller , my local supplier has them , but the GM delphi lifter is still a high quality item by all accounts

Johnson makes the lifters for the COPO engines.

Yeah they have a ceramic check ball (thus the higher rpm capability) and are available from the GMPP catalogue as a set (PN#12499225)...at my GM dealer here in Canada they cost me $141 (so that's about $2.00 US)

For me to get the stock LS7 lifters they had to be purchased individually and would have ended up costing $337...go figure.

Cheers, Paul.

Strange. Buying the ls7 individual they do come out to be pricey, but there is an 8 pack for $140 that saves a lot.

Interesting...has to really make you wonder how I can get 16 from GMPP for $141. I got two sets like this in the past 3 months (for specific engine projects) and keep wondering if I should go back and 'stock up' on a bunch more if they'll keep selling them to me for $141???

Cheers, Paul.

12499225 shows as LS7 lifters and can be found for $120. Are you sure those are the ceramic ball ones? I think those are the standard LS7 lifters.

Caddy ceramic ball racing lifters are $300 or so

You know, I ASSumed the 12499225 were the ceramic balled lifters because they came from the GMPP catalogue, were described as "racing" lifters and didn't have PN#12576400 (standard LS lifters). That said, I am NOT sure the 12499225 lifters have ceramic *****. I knew the Caddy lifters were different but assumed (there's that word again) the difference was more than just a ceramic ball.

So what you're saying is you believe PN#12499225 and PN#12576400 are probably the exact same lifter? If so, I don't think I'll spend a lot of time arguing about this with you because you might well be right

Cheers, Paul.

I think the 225 is just the GMPP number for the 16 pack of ls7 lifters (or newer LS style since they all became the same). The Other part that is $300-350 is the ceramic ball caddy race lifter.

17122490 is the PN for individual stock replacement LS7 lifters. It is also printed on boxes of 8.

If you needing a set of the GM LS7 lifters give us a call. We keep them in stock and sell them at a very reasonable price point.
