[Z06] Camaro Hood Vent install

So all 6 of those stubs are inside the cut line? Looks like the top 2 could be outside...how about the bottom two? If so, you could drill holes in the hood on the outside of your cut outs and use the threaded nuts to bolt them in place using those upper and lower stubs if that makes sense?
You are correct. At the time my sample cuts a stubs are all inside the cut. My first attempt I had the back two outside the cut, but when I did this I couldn't get the vents to lay flat enough. I suppose I could notch them slightly. I've considered the threaded nuts, but they couldn't be used for the center studs as that area is raised. It may work with a piece of aluminum slightly bent, but I don't think backside install will look clean enough for me.

before I decided I would just glue because that would be easiest, I considered the idea of using a two part epoxy and attaching bolt shafts so the Mustang vents could be mounted with underside brackets the way most people to the Camaro vents.

Thanks!
I assume you mean these? The outer edge have a 90 degree angle, on my practice pieces I rounded the top edges down which I will finish out this weekend. I'm going to glue them on my practice piece and see how they will look. I plan on painting them satin black to match the center vent and go from there.

Weekend update. Brackets are now made and painted for side vents. My template allows for two ways to mount. The key to mounting brackets is to use the existing 6 stubs on the backside of vents using 6 Hillman 11.1 Hexagonal washer lock nuts. Size 7/16 Hex- 1/4-20, 4 per bag @ $.068, you'll need 3 bags. It took a while to find a way to bend the aluminum cause there is an stubs are angled, but I figured it out. After playing around with the vent, mounting and un-mounting about 10 times testing, the stubs have taken a beating, so I will order a new set for painting and final install. Side vents are shipping from China so I'm looking at about 3 to 4 weeks before I receive them. In the meantime, now is the time to think about exact vent placement and make a template to get vents to match on both sides. Right now I'm using these cut outs and painted them satin black and placed on hood to get a visual of possible outcome. what do you think, higher or lower?
Option 1 Mounting:
Option 2 Mounting:
Brackets: The lower brackets have to be notched so you can't see bracket from the top side of vent. Once you make lower brackets install them. Use a pencil and trace what is visible from top side and grind it down to where you have marked it.
Brackets Painted:
I'll do an update soon as I get new vents received, painted and installed.

Nice work. I personally like the placement you chose for them. The 427 emblems help to balance the look as well IMO.

Nice job. I would bet a lot of the under hood heat will be eliminated. I would recommend having some type of rubber, other material on the legs of the brackets that contact the hood to prevent potential rubbing due to vibration.

I did the same thing. It made a huge difference in engine coolant and oil temps. I cant give definitive info because /i made other changes. I removed the AC condenser. I wrapped the headers. I added a larger oil cooler. But here's the results
Oil Temp before changes...................275
Oil Temps after.................................23 5
Coolant temps before changes..........220-225
Coolant temps after..........................210-215
Downforce is better. Turn in is better
Under bonnet temps down considerably based on what I feel when I open the hood after a session.

Just picked up my heat extractor from GM. So are you still able to use your coil covers in conjunction with this modification? Or do they cause interference? Do you have to "clock" the MAF so that the MAF wiring doesn't interfere? Just want all my ducks in a row before cutting.

You are brave for cutting up your hood,I don't think I could ever do it but props to you for doing a great job.
I have seen a few vents on the hoods of C6's. There was one on a black Loma z06 I think it was or were they just louvers not sure now. They ran down both sides of the hood.
The picture above seems to have a wide vent that goes across the whole middle section of the hood.

Hood Scoop
bought from Cultrag, 2014-15 Camaro Hood Vent
install vent smooth, just take your time
love the way it looks, C6 should have came with some sort of hood vent from factory, the Camaro vent flows well with C6 lines ( IMHO )
I enjoy watching heat rise from the Vent after a long drive
