I had a long talk with the tech guys on my visit a couple weeks ago when I got booted. They are teching more stringent for sure, but I articulated my case with them (and I also know most of the techs from our previous track). This past Friday night, Chris inspected my car for 5-10 minutes, including available brake pad material, registration and insurance, then with a word of caution, gave me the 10.0 and AAA class indicator.
One thing I've run across is that WHP is playing loose with the rules for the AAA Street Legal drags. Their Friday Night Drags are in reality nothing more than a TnT. The AAA event rules state that "only legitimate street-legal machines are allowed to participate". They even wrongly state about the AAA category on their website.
Now that they've bent their stance with you, how can they stop a flood of others who don't fit the AAA ruling? Since I'm far closer to stock than you and only run high 10's, I should get a pass too.
Now for the bigger question. Does this mean you're bailing on the rollbar deal?

Strangely enough, I've been reading the rulebook very closely, since I'm making a couple changes in my rollbars to better work on Z06/ZR1 platforms.

I gave you all the stuff that they could check. Most of the time they don't check it all. The longer the line waiting to go through tech, the less they check. It also seems the younger the driver and the older the car, the more they check. They've only looked under my car on one occasion and noted I needed axle loops the next time I return. I don't meet specs on 4 items, but 3 of the 4 are way too hard for them to check, so if they ask, I lie. They asked about aftermarket axles once and I told them I had Smothers Brothers axles. The young tech guy didn't know they were comedians in the 60's and 70's.
I'd guess if you meet the rollbar, jacket, harness, and helmet criteria, they'd give you a pass, since you're not an AZ resident.

Maybe I can get by with all my gray hair and only practice the launch before I run an all out glory pass
All I need is to beat a 10.72et for the World Record in my platform which is currently held by a South Carolina car. I know I have a shot in Phoenix!

I really appreciate all of your feedback and can honestly say you have it hard! I remember my first run was 11.80et and they called me back to the tech and said a convertible needs a roll bar if you break 13.99et. I simply told them it has a factory roll bar and they said OK you are good to go! I now run 11.30et at 6500+DA and all they check for is helmet and jacket. I have stock seat belts and I doubt the roll bar is NHRA approved.

Wild Horse Pass is Strict!
Tech tagged me 13.5et because of convertible and almost did not let me run because my helmet did not have a Snell sticker on it. I guess he felt sorry when I told him I drove over 6 hours from Albuquerque.
Good News is I won the Street Car Take Over "RWD Roll Racing" event and got my single one shot pass to the 10 second club! 10.92et at 133mph
A wicked ZRI ran the 9.61et!

Nice pass.
I hope to get some runs in down there over the winter.

DA was close to 1800 on your 1/4 mi pass, but even if you'd been there Friday night with DA in the mid 800's, you'd still been hard pressed to equal your PB of 10.80.
Yeah, tech is tough. The main tech guy asked me about a trans shield for my A6 trans. I told him there is no room for even a blanket. Besides, the reason for the shield is to avoid a foot or leg injury if the trans blows, but with a rear trans that can't happen, so he teched me for 10.0.

Hey Guys
Hope all is well... I finally got almost banned from my local track for running 11 seconds on my roadster without a roll cage.
This happened because I would get the vert limit (13.50et), practice my launches then run the car all out (11et) and of course get kicked out. At this point they are tired of me so its time to get the roll cage.
Unfortunately I cannot find any local (ABQ) shops that can fabricate a 6 point moly roll cage because they want to buy something already made for my platform and just weld or bolt in. It is not made, trust me I checked!
Can any of you refer me to a reputable fabricator in the Phoenix area that can make a 6 point roll cage for my 370Z Roadster?
=p

Since we have a few young guns who are aiming at 9's or better, time to bring this to the top again to see how "easy" it really is....NOT !!!
Lots of big power cars are starting to roll out of shops so hopefully we start seeing guys able to harness the power and start posting those sub 10 second slips !!!!
The new guys can see what it takes, and the level of detail needed to achieve these goals too

My newest updates are a new RXT 1200 clutch and aluminum flywheel, Shorai lithium battery, and RT-S drag fronts....dropping me to a race weight approaching sub 3000 LBS.
A new LNC-2000 will allow me to set a launch RPM and execute no-lift shifts, which hopefully will allow me to shave a few 100th's (maybe a full 1/10th or 2) off my ET.
The driveline got a new LG billet rear coupler and OEM front rubber guibo for the replacement OEM driveshaft and torque tube to give the driveline a bit more strength.
CCW wheels will replace my heavy 19/20 street setup for those 1/2 and 1 mile events.
With the new clutch, I'm hoping to surpass my PB of 1.49 60'.
I'll be performing a few tweeks to hopefully address some aerodynamic drag and front end lift I had at my last 1/2 mile event to better my current standing mile times and MPH.
Wish List:
1) Still want the 3.90 rear gear, and for 1/2 mile or longer races, the ZR1 spec 5th and 6th gear transmission gearing (or equivalent).
2) Tony Mamo's new heads and matching cam
Aiming for a 10.0 or better, 165+ standing 1/2 mile, 190+ standing 1 mile....... and 200+ MPH membership and plaque from the Magnum 1.5 too, while still being all N/A !!!
Then, when I've ringed out what I can, I'll put the car on spray
Standing 1/2 mile in 17.68@162 MPH

As for those C6Z specific gears, they have been coming for a very, very long time now. IMHO, I would set a drop dead date for their manufacture and then go for the slightly weaker but upgraded set of C6 gears if they are again delayed. You have missed a lot over the years by not taking the plunge.
Good luck with ALL of your goals.

Yep, if they don't come out by the end of the year, that's my only alternative.

Drove to the track and made one hit on Michelins. Spun like crazy through 1st and 2nd, granny shifted and hit the limiter in 3rd. 2.2 60 ft. LOL. My Caddy ran better. Terrible low 11 second pass. Went 131 mph. 10's will happen on the MT's.

Yep...be careful on those street tires at the drag strip as they have a tendency to create axle/wheel hop...which destroys axle at minimum...rear end cases and transmission output shafts in the worse case

It seems as though this device would cut timing while letting fuel continue. As I try to make the right choice on whether I want to tune it into my car or use this device I'm let with the question of which is better - cutting timing or fuel?
To me, cutting fuel would be the 'safer' method because when you cut timing you're not left letting the injector dump fuel into the cylinder for when timing is 're-engaged' after your shift and it's met with extra fuel.
Does anyone have any insight on this? Can you comment on how this devices performs no lift shifts for you? (I'm assuming this device cuts timing and lets the injectors do as they please in the short period of time the timing is cut.)
