And who sleeved it?

ERL dry deck low CI motor would be perfect.

For 650rwhp nothing wrong with a BAP/stock pump IMO. I wouldn't spend $2k+ for that power level. Other option would be a $900 ECS or A&A add on pump kit.

Google Darton. At that price, you may have MID wet sleeves. Easy to tell looking at the deck. You'll also know if you can bore or if you will be limited to a hone. You should have them die pen and sonic check the block before putting any effort into it.

You dont need billet caps either. Looking at those pics, was it run without oil?

I was told the car has Darton Mid Sleeves. I am going to pick up the car this Saturday and store it for the winter. Just really bummed about the whole ordeal.

In addition to sleeves, also need to know exactly what heads?
"It also had a different set of heads"

It does look like you had an oiling issue.

Well I'm sorry about the pain your feeling. But on a good note, whoever built that engine, built it well. I do not know what caused the failure, and will refrain from the internet guessing game, but that is one hell of a stout build. Those MID sleeves are for serious power. Better than most aftermarket blocks. Hang in there...

If I were in your shoes, I'd give Erick Koenig a call (HKE Engines). Ship that sucker to him.

Hu..... Weird. Can't even find his web site. He's too young to retire, so I have no idea what's going on.

Got some more information from the shop:

The motor has WCCH heads, instead of the PRC heads I was told it had.

"Top of the pistons show it was running very lean. The spark plugs say the same thing. The rod bearings show the car was detonating pretty bad, especially in #7 and #8. The crank is discolored and unusable, and some bad main bearings. "

"I can very confidently say it blew up from detonation, but the reason looks like low oil"

With the new build, i will be upgrading my dry sump tank to something higher capacity. I should have asked for an oil sample to send it out for analysis, but didn't think of that until now.

I am headed down tomorrow with a special flatbed to pick it up and take it home. Will also probably put the down payment on the engine build. If you have any additional advice, definitely shoot it my way. Thanks.

Detonation is a fickle bitch with destructive tendencies. It'll kill any engine. That's why I always caution others whenever I hear words like "boost", "mill the heads", "just spray it", "desensitize the knock sensors"......

I have no doubt the detonation caused this mess. You will want to have all the rods checked for straightness and twist. I think Katech is probably your best chose for Ti rod work. Not sure if I'd trust anyone but them with the rods. Ti is so infrequently used, even the top engine shops don't see them very often.

If you had OEM sleeves, you'd be looking at a new block too. Those MID sleeves are designed to take abuse. But I'd still have them inspected very thoroughly. Die penetration, mag particle and a sonic check. Every competent machine shop will have the equipment to do these. Hell I do, and I'm not even a "professional" engine builder.

I have seen the canned Edelbrock tunes for use with their Eforce. It's pathetic. I can't believe they provide a warrantee with that tune file.

There is a built LS7 for sale in the C6 For Sale Parts forum. The engine is in Houston at Late Model, which is a well known and trusted engine builder.

Buy that engine and have it installed. Then sell off all that Supercharger crap. The LS7 is not meant to be boosted and even when it works it's far from ideal.

You'll have a better product and after you recoup some costs you'll be in it less than $15K for sure.

Just an update, after almost a year, I am picking up the finished car tonight. Went ahead and had the entire motor forged, added a meth kit, smaller pulley, oil system/fuel system upgrades, and went e85...***** a beast!
