Default Which oil is the best to use?

I just got it out of the dealership for service and they've topped up the engine oil and such. I heard that the signs for a valve issue/failure is the first thing it will consume high oil and this is what it's happening to me lately. Drove it a few days and it went from 97% from 99%. Is this something normal? Is this because of the cheapness of the oil from the dealership that they provide to us which is M1 5W30?

I got a boltons (including fast 102 intake) Z06 and I was wondering which oil is the best to use as I got the mods on it. I'm having second thoughts on 5W30 to be honest with you.

Getting some oil past the valve guide seals can be a good thing. Especially With how much power these cars make.
So I prefer to use joe Gibbs LS30 5w-30. The stuff was tested by bob the oil guy and preformed extremely well. Has 1600 ppm of zinc and about as much phosphorus. Very high shear rating and flash point.
If u prefer the 10w-30 the amsoil z-rod is a very good choice also.
Or any of the redline oils.
All these mentioned above are Ester based oils.

Your engine oil life went from 99% to 97%? I didn't know that was an indicator of oil consumption.

I use 5w-30 with about a cup of 75W-90 gear oil tossed in.

Shell Rotella T and other light truck diesel engine oils are already "high zinc" formulations which the LS7 doesn't need because it has a roller lifter valve train.

Adding more ZDP via "STP zinc oil treatment" does nothing of value for durability and may actually degrade it due to excessive ZDP causing "chemical wear" inside the engine.

When the guy that runs Blackstone labs in Indy says just buy whatever syn. oil is on sale..... what else is there to say?? I use Castrol or Vavoline 5w 30 syn. Royal purple is drinking the Kool-Aid. Research it enough and truth will be told.

Mobil1 0W40 European spec oil is what I use in my Z06. That is what GM said to use in the Z06's they shipped to Europe.

I put in LS30 after I did my cam swap but I'm going back to Mobil 5w 30 since I decided to keep the cats on my longtubes I just ordered. I think the Mobil tested just as high or higher than the LS30 anyway

I am constantly amazed how little some owners of high-performance cars actually know and/or understand about what they've purchased. At least please read the owner's manual to learn how the car works.

The cheapness?? You'd probably be surprised to know that M1 is the best oil found anywhere in the world. But then again, Vette owners who know these things don't take their cars to the dealers for everyday service.

Reality is that "Owner's Manuals" tell little of HOW the car works. They mostly tell you how to operate the car's systems.

If you want to better understand HOW the car works, you need the factory Service Manual.

"HOXXOH", can you post some evidence to support your statement that "M1" is the "best oil in the world"?
