Stock fuel pump on E85 / flex fuel, Who's using a BAP?
I haven't heard too many guys over here talking about BAP like they do in the FI section. Is the LS7 fuel pump plenty capable up to 600rwhp on E85 without a BAP?

Ive heard more of the same that Rio is stating. in rare cases they survive but for me it isnt worth the risk. I have thought of doing the same, but on a N/A car there isnt really any reason to, the power gains will be minimal at best. then you will have to plan your route around the e85 stations. im still 93 oct and did you like mine?

For me the hp gains from E85 are just an added benefit. I like the cooling qualities of E85 and keeps the internals very clean.
Good thing is I have 2 stations 3 miles away from my house in both directions.
We all have 10% ethanol in our gas right now and soon will be 15%, so the ethanol is not the issue. It must just be this year volume of fuel that could potentially cause an issue.
I spoke with one guy in Arizona who had an issue with his stock pump on E85 but I haven't heard much about outright failures.

I've seen enough stock pumps fail on E85, that I wouldn't try it. The ethanol IS the issue. There is a big difference between E10 and E85, as far as fuel system compatibility is concerned. One of my good friends works for a very large OEM fuel system supplier, and we have had long discussions about this. You should see what they have to change, in order to certify the system for E85 use.
On an N/A setup, with compression <12:1, the gains are minimal at best. I've thought about it myself...lots of E85 stations around here...and I've run it in other vehicles, but I got tired of filling up every other day, since the range is abysmal. Going to lose about 30%.

So is it simply a matter of upgrading to a pump like a Walbro 450 or something similar?
I have ID850's and aftermarket fuel lines and fuel rail so all that should be fine with E85.

Yes that's a good choice.
I thought the ID850s were NOT E85 compatible? I couldn't find a clear answer on that. I know some of the larger ones are.

I lost my new OEM pump after approximately 1000 miles of E85 use, so this time I'm going with the Walbro pump.
Before the pump failure, with 60 lbs injectors, Racetronix harness, new OEM fuel pump, and Torquer 110 cam, I was able to hold a steady 60 psi fuel pressure throughout my WOT pulls to 7200 RPM...so I did not need a BAP.
I have a fuel pressure gauge on my fuel rails, and the switch I'm doing to the K501, MSD, and a possible slight additional bump in compression, I still think I'll be able to get solid 60 psi fuel pressure without the use of a BAP.
FYI....the use of E85 on my 110 car with .030 milled WCCH Stage 2 heads was worth approximately 15 RWHP and 15 Tq over our 91 pump gas, as well as the cooler running temps. Did I mention the tasty exhaust smell of E85, the smoother idle, and the exhaust note change ?

I've ran the stock OEM pump exclusively on E85 for 2 years with zero issues. Then instaleled a 463ci engine and the stock pump was maxed out so we replaced it with a Walbro 450 and Recetronix harness which I have now been running exclusively on E85 for nearly 3 years with zero issues also.

That's what my tuner is telling me, he said on his car at 530rwhp it was running out of pump. I am just going to bite the bullet and have them install the Walbro 450 pump. Is the racetronix harness really necessary when using this pump?

I think it's worthwhile, as the OEM wiring for the fuel pump is a smaller gauge, limiting current draw for the pump.

626rwhp here on e85 and stock pump, no BAP. No issues so far, but i've only got maybe 100 miles on the setup. My shop said they haven't seen issues with stock pumps in this setup yet.
