[ZR1] C6 ZR1 vs C7 Z06

C6 ZR1 vs C7 Z06
I know this has probably been beat to death, but I'm looking for someone that's been in this position and can maybe give me an outlook on their decision on which way they went? I like the ZR1, because it has a bigger factory blower and the C7Z interior is nicer. So why did you go with a ZR1 over the C7Z? I'm more into drag racing also.

I chose the ZR1 for a few reasons, more car for the money now that the prices have dropped a little, love inferno orange which is not available on C7's, like the more "integrated" look of the ZR1, to me the rear spoiler and aero of the Z06 looks like cheap aftermarket add-ons, wanted a manual trans but wasn't sure I'd like the 7 speed, was a little hesitant about some of the over heating issues with the Z06, liked the idea of a super low production car that is no longer made. If you're into drag racing though the auto Z06 is the way to go, and I do love the new interior.

All comes down to money.
If money isn't an issue get the newest car id say.
I picked the z because the price somewhat bottomed out and I didn't lose much selling it.
You will lose 30k with the new z in a few years vs u might not lose anything buying a zr1.
Both will be a beast drag racing. Even a civic could be a beast.

1. I prefer the ZR1 styling. The C7 is too gimmicky.
2. The ZR1 has taken the depreciation hit so percentage wise I expect to lose less.
3. LS9 is a rock solid engine.
4. There were only 4600 ZR1's produced. I have never seen one on the road. I see C7's every day. There is something to be said for exclusivity.

ZR1's don't overheat like the C7's do, ZR1's don't look a half of a Camaro with a digital dash inside.
GM should have kept the classic Dual round/oval tail lights and more of a softer look.
Its your choice, but the ZR1 is always going to be the KING, the Z06 is going to be a mass produced corvette.

I have a ZR1 and my dad has a C7Z so these are my opinions.
ZR1 is more exclusive with only 4600 of them being made, better modding platform, and cheaper
C7Z has much much nicer interior, factory warranty, and the ride feels tighter like a race car (not that I've driven a race car but its what I'd imagine they'd feel like)
Looks is subjective. I think the C6 looks better, but my dad thinks the C7 looks better

For me personally, I'd take a ZR1. Like others have said, it all comes down to preference and money. The ZR1 just does it for me, I've been drooling over that car since they came out. I personally think the LS9 is the best engine GM every produced for a production car. You really can't go wrong either way, but my vote would be for the ZR1.

I own both cars.
I bought the ZR1 new in 2009 and Z06 new in 2015.
Since i've had the Z06 ive driven the ZR1 about 400 miles.
Z06 now has 6,000.
The creature comforts and features of the Z06 make it much more enjoyable and I can take off the top.

We debated this with the Z06 as well because VIR had been repaved....I just don't recall the details and all but I recall that coming into play to some degree...maybe I'm wrong.

Both great cars. People who favor the ZR are akin to those that refused to get a C5 because they loved their C4. People who favor the Z generally like new tech and styling. Ideal is to have both. If cost is an issue, ZR wins. Personally, I love the new Z styling, ride, tech, drive, etc., but somehow have a hard time parting with my older, but rarer ZR.

It is interesting with what is going on with car technology and design. It feels like many Marques are breaking with their past. One of the things I love about the ZR1 is it feels like the modern version of a 60's muscle car. Something that will never be made again. The C7 feels like the beginning of a new design direction. The C8 will be in line with the design direction of the C7 but better. I would argue (owning a ZR1 and having tracked a C7), that the ZR1 is the last in an era. One sees the same thing with Ferrari and Porsche for instance. I think the manual transmission F430 is the natural evolution from the 246 Dino and the last of a breed. The 458 is a whole new design and technology philosophy. Similar breakpoint with two most recent versions of the 911. So, to me, the Zr1 is the last of a breed. I really enjoy mine and plan to keep it. I feel I will be able to pick up a C7 or improved C8 at any time. I bought an F430 with a manual transmission for the same reason. So , ZR1 and C7 Z06 are both phenomenal cars. ZR1 is the end of an era. C7 is the new direction. My two cents.
