[Z06] C6Z heads question.
#1
C6Z heads question.
I'm looking to buy a 06-09 z06 in the next few months and plan on doing the heads and very mild cam. I was wondering what heads i should go with for the price range of $0-$3000(ie: WCCH, TSP) and any mild cam recommendations. Also what other thing i should do while the heads are off to help prolong the engine life. I want to get everything set up so i can knock over a few days(I'll will be taking a few days off to finish it when the time comes).

[QUOTE=Dan_the_C5_Man;1592447654]Send your stock heads (or another set) to AHP - American Heritage Performance, speak to Kohle - he will get you set up with a solid combo for less than most. [/QUO
Agreed!

The 3 places I would trust are WCCH, AI and AHP.

AHP is the way to go. Personal experience with them. My testimony is coming soon. You can't go wrong with them and you'll be more than happy with the results. Just got my Z06 back yesterday. Want to properly word my experience with them, don't want to short change AHP in any way. Watch for the complete story soon.

Agree with Unreal... if $$ no object the sky's the limit. You can throw FRH in there as well. I just picked up my AI heads and they are a work of art. Customer service was top notch A+++ and had them built to my exact specs! Doing swap myself as I always have over the next 4 days. (stock cam) They are all quality (whoever you choose) and no more valve break worries when done. I love my Z enough to spend the $$$$ for new rebuilt heads.. Look amazing.

I would not touch FRH heads, and known several people who have had nothing but a horrible experience with them, so no I would not recommend FRH heads.

Guy here lost 20rwhp over stock heads. A few more examples if you search of people losing power with them.

Thanks all for the replies, after looking around i'm most likely going to go with AHP. But would like the option to order heads and send in the core later...
maybe thinking about going this route.
what options should i opt for?( i've been trying to read as much as i can on the interwebs)

If you go with a cam and opening up and modifying the heads etc ....then it is an entirely new ball game. Tuning, cooling etcetera all start coming into play. Be sure of what you want before doing these things.

Search here, yellowbullet and LS1tech. You will rarely find anyone with FRH's that posts a dyno or track times.
Its always comical to watch people froth at the mouth about FRH with zero experience using them. They make very well make a good BBC product but their LS stuff is a junk.

what kind of performance should i expect from a 220/238, .635"/.635", 118 LSA +4 cam or should i stay stock cam? I was talking to a buddy and said due to the change in springs in the heads it may add extra wear on a stock cam seeing how its hollowed steel or does that matter. BTW after some thinking looking around im going with AHP for the heads when the time comes and if i do get a different cam what size push rods should i get ie: 7.750?

Money being no object of concern, Tony Mamo is probably where you'd be best served.
But usually money is a concern. I went with a custom tailored setup which was worked over by Richard at WCCH. I like mine just fine. AHP has good results with smaller can setups. They seem to have a knack for keeping street manners and still delivering 550+ rwhp.

You will need 7.750"-7.800" pushrods depending on how much you have the heads milled.
We have a cam packages that uses the 116 cam and our ported heads and constantly puts down 550-555rwhp with stock manifolds and exhaust.

With porting you should be in the 535rwhp range (maybe even a little more).
You will need 7.750"-7.800" pushrods depending on how much you have the heads milled.
