After looking through this thread it seems the tell tale signs are the lack of the dry sump, and the alternator having the incorrect pulley on it. Am I missing anything else? Anything stamped on the block that would indicate, for certain it's the incorrect engine? Clearly if it is an LS2 that's an issue I just need some way to definitely be able to tell. Figured if anyone can help me out there it's you guys.

Unfortunately it's kinda par for the course in this business, we do go over everything when we purchase a car but checking to make sure it's the right engine usually isn't one of them. And since we aren't corvette experts it wasn't something we knew to look for

On our end, this is what appears to have happened.

Fixed this after the video

Either way, once we can get it in the shop and verify if it is or isn't an LS2 we'll change the ad accordingly.

Cheers!
Last 6-7 digits of the VIN are stamped on the back drivers side of the block. Check there when you have it up on the lift.

Fuel cut should be somewhere around 6200 in the LS2/3's I believe.
Considering it had to be programmed to run this engine, the factory rev limit in a ls2/3 car would tell you nothing.

Will an LS2/3 rev to 7200+ RPM without coming apart?

I dont know much about LS3's, except everybody I know that spins them(factory bottom end) to 7000+ has hardened push rods and a lot more valve spring than factory to be able to spin them that high.

Sure, it will a few times. Long term, nope but a single pull or two, yah.

I believe 7.0L is stamped on the heads somewhere towards the front of the engine....so in this case you may find it saying 6.0L?

And then again it could be a LS3 bored & stroked to a 427 with a strong cam pumping out 550 to the wheels.

Just a LS3 with a cam and bolt-ons will run with a bolt-on Z06, so it's not like it'd be underpowered.

Just what visual exterior parts define a LS2 vs LS3? I see no difference.

Fact is, it is not an LS7 as advertised.

I doubt anything was done beings it is missing the rad lines and tank/sump. No one mods a car and leaves out the goodies.

It is as if they dropped in a small motor after the LS7 blew.

I'm not arguing the LS7 ad even though the dealer is now going to correct it, since he has been informed.

It's real unlikely that anyone would slip in a LS3 and go through the trouble to change the crank, add an extra oil pump, and change the pan just to retain the dry sump. It's not a "goodie" that everyone cares about.

Sure it's not just a wide body conversion? Does the top come out?

Yes, especially when he just found out that his investment is worth $10K+ less than he thought it was.

Hopefully he got a ridiculous deal initially to absorb the hit...or perhaps some recourse with the previous owner.

With the probable number of blown LS7s out there, it would seem that it would be only a matter of time before someone swapped in an LS2 or LS3 into a Z06 and traded the car in.
