New z owner Need help with valve issue
Hi guys been watching and reading the site for over a year..picked up an 09 with 30k.
I've been doing research on the valve issue. didn't think much of it till I seen all the blown engines.
There was a video on here I seen and figured i'd check the heads. 3 are really bad from the top veiw with springs off.
Now I got to pull the heads. Was gonna send off to WCCH till this was posted. Not sure what to do as this guy on ls1 tech said he flat out won't touch the guides.
So my ? is what is the fix? The car I have had guide work done. not sure what valves were used but does have bronze valve guides.
The guy that posted this thread on ls1 tech, I'll link if thats ok not sure on rules about that. said to try the moldstar 90 guide..who sells these? I seen AHP has them, Will they sell out right or have to send them in? any help would be great..This sucks. here is the link I'm referring to.

I didn't see cam specs mentioned in that thread. An aggressive, really high lift cam is going to wear out guides faster. It also didn't mention how the car was used.
I have wcch stage 2 heads. If the guides wear out, I'll try the moldstar 90 guides next. Give AHP a call, they are great to talk to directly.

Kohle at AHP will take care of you...they are the only ones using MS90 guides to my knowledge, but I'm sure others will follow at some point. I had Kohle install MS90 guides in my heads last year...I sleep well now.

We are the only ones using our Proprietary Moldstar90 valve guides.
We do sell our Moldstar90 guides out right but the final honing of them is different than any guide material most have ever seen or worked with.
Moldstar90 work hardens over time so the longer you use it the stronger it gets. The more you beat on it the better it is. Moldstar90 is top tier stuff!!! With that said you have to take the "work hardening" into consideration when machining/ final honing them. In all honesty it is probably easier to send in a set of heads to us or use one of our core heads.
If your looking for no down time you could always put down a deposit on one of our core sets. We would then send it out to you and once you complete the swap send back in your old heads for your core deposit back.
Give us a call we are always glad to talk with customer and potential customers about our heads and our process:

or if email is better for you:

I don't think you could go wrong with AHP. I'd also go with their Moldstar90 guides too.

I would do AI heads if I had to. Next choice would be WCCH package.
Mamo heads also show promise and if you can swing the coin for his full package that is a decent option.

Those are my heads and have been taken off every year andvgiudes come threw for 3 years everytime I have had excessive worn guides in under 10k miles and I know a handful of people like me with heads from every vender with worn guides still even chads heads the porter in pic sent his to wcch the last time and guess what 10k later is pulling them off cause they are out of spec these new ms90 guides sound very promising and I wish I could post pics of the great work from chad but I allready tired that and the mods deleted it

My cam is aggressive 660 lift and I race the crap out of mine lives at 7k lots of 1/2 mile runs street 30-160 car it's what u build it for so pulling the heads in a day is easy for me to do every winter car previous had heads done by IPS with there cnc work car as been 165 1/2 and 139 1/4 with chads new head work and my single plane build I expect to see 170 1/2 and 142+ in 1/4 should make somewhere in 630-650 whp on 93 still stock CI

I have the paper work from him.
One reason that thread got my got my attention. Because they take that swirl thing out in the bowl as well.
I'm gonna go with AHP on this as soon as I get the heads off.

AHP AND NGP seem to be the ones with the best track recorded or not wearing out guides and they offer a great wareenry program I think blows my mind over a decade later this is still a problem I have seen it on the aftermarket castings also

If AI already worked your heads, I wouldn't touch a thing. AI is top notch.

You can NOT check the valves with the heads on the car. You do not have a problem. The internet has you crazy.
Good luck and if you want new heads then just say it but you don't need them for a design or production flaw based off of checking the valves with the heads on the car.
Of course no one here listens and many will chastise me...
