Default cseaman's ongoing 2007 Z06 build thread

Hello all, figured I'd go ahead and make a thread now that my car has had some work done on it and some results I figured I would share.

I am currently "deployed" to South Korea, and before I left in October 2016, I promised myself that I'd manage to come home to a cammed Z06. I have wanted a cammed LSx motor for about six years, but never managed to make it happen. I've had a host of VW/Audis, a few sportbikes, and a few Toyota 4x4 trucks. Just never had the opportunity to get a Z06.

I was initially hoping to buy something closer to my return to my home station in Kansas, but I got antsy, and a beautiful car popped up on my radar. A car that a (now) very good friend of mine had seen and vouched for, and was local to where I am stationed and where I am from - in Kansas City.

Enter: 2007 Z06, Silver over black/silver, 2LZ, with 7500 miles. On November 27th, I committed to purchasing the car after a FaceTime conversation from South Korea with the previous owner, Mike. (@zyal8r) Super great guy, was so accommodating to helping a random guy purchase the car in a more difficult manner than most.

https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...nsas-city.html

The car is BONE stock. Nothing done. Nothing.

So, at this point, things escalated. My friend @b16gsr is quite the guy. He is the one who is taking care of the car till I get back this summer. He's also exceptionally knowledgeable on these cars and the tuning locale in Kansas City, MO. Going into this, I knew the heads had to be done, so we had the car delivered straight to Restomod/Justune in KC for light work. Of course, no sane man would pull the heads without tossing in a cam.

Car got delivered to Restomod:

WCCH fixed heads (no porting, nothing, just fixed)
Brian Tooley Racing Stage 2 cam kit w/ all accompanying parts for install
Corsa carbon fiber intake
+ Deleted cats from the OEM exhaust manifolds
+ Might Mouse catch can
+ M2W exhaust switch

Delivery day! Last day with zyal8r!

Of course, no engine build is worth its weight if you don't have some before and after data for comparison.

Bone stock, she put down 474whp/439wtq.

While the car was at the shop, I also had it tinted. I am not a huge exterior mods kind of guy, but I can't handle not having window tint.

50% on the full windshield, 20% everywhere around. Also had the roof wrapped w/ 3M black vinyl.

+ yellow Lamin-x for the fogs, a low key change.

And then, BOOM! Finally wake up to the dyno numbers after the tune was wrapped up @Justune.

This is plain old 91 octane pump gas, same fuel, month, dyno as the baseline.

553whp/500 wtq = + proven gain 79whp & 61wtq

And then the car finally got delivered to it's caretaker, Nick. We also pulled the front end down a tad in anticipation of the wheels that are coming.

He was nice enough to send me an idle video to finally keep me at bay! FINALLY, I have a lumpy cammed LSx!

As of 07JAN2017, that is everything I've got to report on for now. The car will be in storage till winter ends, and the wheels show up from Forgestar. Tires are sitting waiting. It'll get about 200 miles on it, and then sit in storage until I get home. And promptly drive the tar out of it, everywhere.

Thanks for looking.

Congrats on the new purchase. You're gonna love it once you get to finally drive it. BTW where are you at over there. I was in K-16 Seoul airbase last year.

Nice build!!!....seeing ur results has pretty much solidified my cam choice when I dig into my Z....the torque curve looks awesome, and the carrying of power to red line are just what I was wanting....and it sounds AMAZING for being a "smaller" cam

Great results, and shows that sometimes less is more. Are you leaving some HP on the table without LT's and an intake manifold/TB? Sure...but those aren't cheap, and you've built a sleeper. If you ever wanted more HP, but keeping the sleeper look...Mamofied MSD intake would probably add 30-35 rwhp to your car. If you wanted to stay a true sleeper...peak speed shop radical ported stock intake and TB would still probably give you a solid 20hp gain.

As for deleted cats...test pipe or gutted? Assuming gutted.

Bronze wheels on a silver car? Bold move...gonna wait to see how that turns out.

Thanks for your service.

Man, I'm at Casey. It's awful lolol. With the rotational unit that's here.

One of my good buddies is actually a PL in the CAB down there. That's awesome. Assuming you flew with them, same group of guys who gave all of us a lift around the AO up here when we first showed up in October.

Small world!

Thanks brotha! Yeah man, I couldn't be happier. And my tuner advised it drives like a stock car. That was super important to me, cause I go on long road trips annually, and a surging cruise control would have driven me up a wall.

Thanks man! Yes, I hunted around looking at longtubes and such, but I just don't think another $2k was justified for the gains. I absolutely don't think they are now, given my purpose for the vehicle - not racing, just truly enjoying it and some random long road trips. Extra noise, ticking, money, etc...just wasn't the right choice for me.

Gutted cats.

And, haha yeah, bold I suppose. I kinda have a thing for silver on matte bronze. This is my DD. I like it because it's low key, is nothing like Subaru's rally/rice gold that everyone likes to mimic.

Looks great and sounds even better on this forum, too.

Can't wait to see the wheels. Love the Forgestars. Been thinking of something different on mine, but not sure they make those in C4 size or bolt pattern [looks like they would be 18s].

Curious...are the 200 miles "break in" miles? Hey Nick, if you need any help...

In all seriousness, you've done a great job! We found the right person to buy this car. My dad would be pleased and would love the power gain I have to say thanks again for your service and thanks again to Nick!

Hope the wait goes by quickly

Mike

Forgestar makes a looooot of options. I could have had 18R/18F built for this car if I'd wanted. Same with 19F/20R. I'm not a big wheels guy though, so I stuck with the OEM sizes.

Thanks brother see ya in about five months!

minimal updates

- amber LEDs for the fogs, white LEDs for the reverse lights and plate lights
- matching suede/blue stitching shiftknob
- TR6060 shifter (for the shiftknob)

wheels should be in nick's (b16gsr) possession on Thursday. 13.5 weeks later.

I successfully disputed the purchase with my bank, and got all my money back. They were supposed to be 6-8 week delivery. However, the vendor ended up matching a rather insane offer I extended that would keep them coming to me...so they're finally done and in the mail. I can't tell 100% how happy I will be with them, but again...they're so cheap I can afford to not like them and just sell them at no loss.

Nick and I are talking about doing a set of Rotiforms to replace them when I get home. We shall see. Either way I'll run on these while I get used to the car, and take it to AZ/CA/NV/CO and back to Missouri when I get home in three months.

This is a great thread, I can't believe I missed it. A cammed Ls7 just sounds like music to my ears. I like the bronze touch to the wheels. Nick (B16gsr) is a great guy for handling your build, keep this thread updated.

Yesterday was a good day, getting the car in the shop based on the day was a challenge, but it was Chris's birthday so my gift was getting it put together. As I told him the wheels are pretty unique in finish almost an antiqued bronze finish which is really cool. Mount and balance went off without a hitch, but I was a little worried having dealt with Scooby24's debacle.

I finally got a chance to actually drive the car since in my possession. I can honestly say that it is the best driving modded c6z I have ever driven. I think that right combination of parts and my over analyzation helped pull this one off. I was able to take it on the highway and lug the motor in 6th gear at 55mph and it just motored along. I will say sub 1400rpm caused a little surging, but that is clearly to be expected. I also was able to do a highway pull in Mexico and was like a little kid. It is just nuts, 2nd gear through the top of 4th and it just freight trained. Cannot wait for Chris to experience this, its quite the rush.

Overall I am extremely pleased with the outcome.

I am waiting on a DSVettes console lid that will have a suede top, silver sides (to match the sides of the seats), and blue stitching to tie all the new suede and blue stitched stuff together.

This all started because I bought a used steering wheel for what I thought was a steal. Ended up deciding it wasn't in good enough shape, bought a new one, and then the shift ****/boot, e-brake/boot, and pending console lid.

I have the same tires and make right around the same power. They are not THAT bad. Spin quite a bit in first, second will spin a bit but catch at the top. Hitting it in 2nd at around 50mph will spin a bit or not at all depending on the road surface/temp.

Great post and great vette! My 13 427 convertible is having the heads fixed and BTR stage 2 cam installed now - hopefully will pick it up tomorrow! Makes me feel good with the BTR stage 2 cam choice!
