Secondly, that's amazing it pulled that kind of money! Any idea what the mileage was? Anything special about it?
Makes me feel real good about my auction-bought '07!

VIN was 001, so first car off the line.

Found it.........

"........the first Corvette of its generation to roll out of the Bowling Green, KY, assembly plant."
This doesn't make sense to me? What am I missing?

Barret is crazy. I was there last weekend and gone the past few years. Its a rich mans play ground. Bunch of rich people throwing money around, buying whatever to have fun. I wouldn't use this to judge values of cars.

There was all sorts of just basic c6s there trying to pull a bunch of money. Famous peoples personal cars.
The vendor area alone is worth the visit. Everything you can imagine being slung to rich people. 1.3M+ boats, vacations, jewelry, etc.

Found this years auction to be a joke and 90% commercials. It used to be entertaining. Crowds aren't as big as previous years. Now they have like 6 of them a year. Watered down fluff.

Never been to either live. Would like to attend a Mecum auction but they never come to the Northeast. BJ will be at Mohegan Sun in CT this summer, I may go for a day just to experience it.

2020 C5 of the Year Finalist - Unmodified
Guess some rich person got duped, it may have been 001 of 2007, but as you correctly state not the first of a generation as Barrett-Jackson misrepresented in their print write up.

It was the first Z06 of model year 2007, not the first Z06. I was there Friday and saw that car. It was clean with, low miles and completely stock, but not worth 51k. They also had a 2010 ZR1 that was vin #001 that sold for around 90k. ZR1s began production in 2009 so again what is the significance of number 1 in the model year? It rained on Friday so there weren't any crowds outside. It was actually nice to be able to spend some time at cars you liked without getting pushed out of the way.

Here is that 2007 Z06 that sold for $51k.

That Black C4 Corvette with the active suspension was cool, not sure if it was $88k cool.

A handful of C4 ZR1's going for cheap, even some of that C2 and C3 Big Block's going for less than I recall in the past. (Just not as fun as a C6 Z06!)
1991 ZR1 with 15k original miles for $23k, that's a crazy low price.

'68 Tri-Power 427 for $24k, that can't be right.

One of 84 pre-production ZR1's in 1989 that were never sold to the public. $99k.

The last production C5 Z06 sold for $74k.

The prototype Monte Carlo was cool but having to sell it with a salvage title meaning you couldn't drive it on public roads, I think it sold for $30k. John Moss designed the car for GM and I used to love some of his creations; he said GM spent over $800k making that one specific car, and had it up to 150 going around TMS. I've done probably just under 150 on TMS in an older NASCAR and I'm not sure I felt safe in it or would have in that Monte Carlo at that speed, on that track!

Salvage title doesn't mean you can't drive it on the street. Plenty of salvage title cars rolling around. Just depends on the state on what you have to do with it to get it registered. Most are easy.

I just thought it was kind of funny. I didn't get to see it when it sold, but its still crazy. As far as Barret-Jackson auctions, I don't really car for it. Don't care for Steve Davis and his sunglasses and fancy hair. Don't care for Steve Magnante and Mike Joy telling every detail of every car that sells. I would just like to hear the auction. Too much money for me. I guess it would be nice to see one in person, but probably not very likely. Oh well.
