Going rate for cam install/tune, labor only?
whats average cost of a cam install, and tune with me providing all necessary parts? Just got a quote and seems pretty high, but maybe I'm off in my thinking. Thanks!

Too broad of a question?
Take a stock cam out and put a new one in is going to be a fraction of a properly done aftermarket cam setup/swap/tune.
Cam, lifters, pushrods, springs, setting spring height, push rod length measured, cam timing, possibly PTV measurement, rockers, etc etc is far different than taking one cam in and putting another in.
Tune also varies widely but $500+ is a good starting point for a quality tune. Anything $400 or less I would be concerned with the quality of the tune.
You also say headers and intake. Those vary. If I was installing a set of kooks/lg/arh I would charge $250 for headers, but pfadt or china brand would be $400+ because their fitment usually sucks.

^never said anything about headers or intake. Already have bolt ons and tune.
I had two quotes , 1500 and 1750 for install and tune. I reckon that's not all that bad considering the tune is $500.

Sorry it was the next guy that said headers/intake.
Either way, you need to ask exactly what that includes. It could be a good deal or crap deal.

it includes everything, installing new springs, retainers, timing chain, trunnion upgrade, gaskets, etc. , everything to do it properly. Not just take one cam out, lube a new one up and shove it in, and bolt it all back up.

So they are degreeing it? Setting spring height? Measuring then ordering push rods?
Skip trunion "upgrade"

Plenty of reputable shops don't do that stuff, which is why you need to ask. If one quote is $2k with all that, and another is $1800 without it, the $2k is a much better deal. Thats why I'm saying you need to figure how exactly what is in a "cam install" because prices can be all over.

Here's AHP's kit of parts for a cam swap...this is parts only. May help you figure out what you're getting for your money.

I paid $850 for cam install labor, (I provided all parts) plus $500 for tune. A forum vendor was running a 'winter' special at the time.
