I agree, the fine print is a mother******. However my vehicle is stock and has been verified to contain a stock tune. I knew the previous owner. My job is to maintain regular service and keep records.

warranties are scary.... lots of obscured fine print not in the benefit of the policy holder.

Anyway, look, I can see your direction on this and why.... good amount of cars are fine, but a good percentage of them are not, its a risky proposition non the less.

This is a public forum, everyone can say and do as they please, as we all know.

That being said, I would recommend to at least to the wiggle wiggle dance test and see. No one wants to see a motor go if it can be stopped from happening.

p.s. I have stock untouched heads on my Z. <--- Probably doing something about it soon too...

I don't have definitive proof that a fire in my house will burn it down. But in addition to having insurance, I change my smoke alarm batteries regularly, have a fire extinguisher under a cabinet in the kitchen, and a generator available for when the power goes out like it just did for a week in Rochester, NY. These are normal "grown man" precautions to protect my things and my family. I'm not paranoid and I rarely worry, but I do prepare and protect and I don't expect someone​ else to do this for me.

You are right, do as you will with your car, but once you start making posts on a forum rationalizing your decisions then it is inevitable you will get feedback. What were you expecting? A slap on the back? What was your purpose in telling all of us this? We know the answer (self rationalization).

So if you drop a valve, the warranty will pay for a brand new engine that has the same faulty cylinder heads/valve guides? Why even bother?

I think many of us would take extra precautions to protect our homes over a vehicle any day. Your comparisons don't really apply here.

I've chosen to purchase the aftermarket warranty to not live in fear. I've also chosen to not modify the vehicle. 505 hp is enough for me.

I don't think there's a high probability that I will blow 2 engines during my ownership of this car. Not saying it's impossible, just not likely.

I actually was offered a similar aftermarket warranty when I went to deal on a '11 Z06 with 2k on the clock. I don't think the dealer or the 3rd party knew about the potential problems with the LS7 engine. Reading the fine print it did look like the car was covered bumper to bumper for 5 yrs.

Anyway, both this car and the '12 Z06 with 11k miles and a new replacement engine that I looked at are still on the lot 1.5yr later. I've often wondered how the replacement engine affected the value of the car.

Also, a guy that brought his 427 to the rally we went on last year is now on his third factory engine. Warranty is great, but unless the valve/cylinders are resolved, a replacement is not going to solve it long term.

I wanted a Z, but settled on a GS instead - less to worry about. Now I want a ZR1

Enjoy the car, OP. That's why they were made. To me, these cars beg for things that void warranties--I chose to spend my money elsewhere and enjoyed the car how I wanted.

Most aftermarket warranties will not cover something that was preexisting before the purchase of the vehicle. I.E: The heads were faulty from the factory.

I got mine done with 2,200 miles on the car. Just wasn't going to take the chance. And at the same time, upgraded the performance with Stage 2 heads (ported and slightly higher compression). Just read about to many dropped valves and my shop warned me about it.

The price of the head fix is wildly under reported on this forum. When I researched it with shops (ie: not doing it myself), I got quotes from 2.8-4.5k. This included the heads, install, tune, gaskets, fluids, etc. If you did it yourself, you would still be looking at $2k+: $1800 AHP heads, $150 install kit, $100 in oil. Still obviously cheaper than a new motor.
