As far as best year that all depends on what you are looking for. If you want the lightest weight car go with a 2006Z, less insulation and may have more road noise. Newer years have more insulation with the tax of weight, but interior is a little more updated. I had the same question as you when I bought my Z06 a month ago. Bottom line is find your budget. A stock 2006 could be as cheap as $30K, but it may be a higher mileage Z. A 2006 Z06 with 9K miles for $34k is a great buy, I can tell you I haven't seen a deal like that in the year I was looking. When I was searching prices were all over the board, but then I found a basic pattern of acceptability in what I was willing to pay for a clean Z06. My finding were pretty basic, I was searching for a car that had less than 25K miles, 1 to 2 owners, clean title, tires that didn't need replaced and maybe a couple light mods, aftermarket exhaust, headers and CAI. If you are lucky find one with the heads addressed. I expected to pay $36K for 2006, $37K for 2007, $38K for 2008....you see the pattern. I truly thought I would have purchased from one of the forum members, but they had pricing way above for higher mileage of modified cars. Some even listed cars with pictures of aftermarket rims, diffusers and such parts, but wasn't selling the cars with those items included in their listed price, they wanted you to pay the premium. I found Autotrader to have better pricing as it was more in tune with what I listed above. For me, I found a 2008 Z06 2LZ with 23K on the ODO, Akrapovic full exhaust with carbon fiber tips, Mild to Wild installed, K&N CAI, chrome spider rims wrapped in brand new tires, NAV for $36.2K, asking price was $37.7K, 1 owner, clean title not a scratch on it!! I will still need to address the heads. Iv'e seen like listings here in the lower $40K pricing. The LS7 have been known to drop valves, so please budget for head fix issue, read up on it or buy one that has been addressed.
Good luck Gary!!

I'm new to the vette scene but I know that some years of cars will always be better than others, not to mention some years offer different options/colors that other years may not.
Actually one of my biggest dilemmas is whether or not I'd want to buy one with engine work done already. I bought my M3 bone stock and did everything myself, lots of money and lots of headaches; I'm not sure I want to do that again. I've never been one to buy someone else's hard work, but having someone else deal with the heads and and have already put a cam and tune on the car sounds tempting; especially since I'll be buying while I have young children. I won't have the time/money to dedicate to sit in the garage all weekend tearing the car apart and buying a bunch of performance parts. Decisions, decisions...

There is NO best here.
ALL are good.
NONE exceed any other year with anything really all that more valuable.

Depends on what you're looking for. Paying more for features you don't want or won't use makes those years NOT the best.
2013 Z06 was the "best" without considering price. It had the most possible options. But if you can't live life without LMB paint, then 2013 won't be the best for you.
