Default what are you doing to keep brake dust off your wheels?

I have an 07 Z and the dealer put 4 factory rotors and full set of pads on the car before I bought it. All GM parts. I noticed the brake dust is horrible. Worst brake dust car I've ever owned. Is there a type of wax or coating I can put on my wheels after washing them to help? Do you guys literally wax the wheels with wax for the paint? What should I use for best results after I get them all washed and clean?

Not that I've found. I have chrome wheels on my C6Z. Since it's not driven a lot, most of the time I cover the rotor and caliper with plastic and clean the wheels with detailer.

New pads. Try Carbotech 1521 or Powerstop Z26. Both are low-dust.

On my C7Z I also applied Gtechniq C5 Wheel Armor.

It does help to repel the dust and is far easier to remove.

Another option I used to use is Rejex. It is a synthetic wax/sealant and works well on wheels, and the car for that matter. Go with two coats.

Don't drive it. Thats the best way to keep them clean. Sorry. Or, drive it, then clean the wheels. Or change to a better brake pad (less dust, not better).

This, been doing it for years...it works well. Just need to make sure the wheels are completely dry (especially lug recesses). Any moisture on the wheel, and it negates the product.

I changed the pads to Hawk Ceramics. Very little dust now. Before I had to clean the wheels every time I drove it.

Hawk ceramic pads. No dust. Not as much stopping power as stock, but plenty for street driving in my opinion.

You can switch your pads to the Carbotech 1521 if you prefer not to clean your wheels every day. The 1521 should cut your brake dust a significant amount and is a 100% non-corrosive dust will not harm your wheels or paint. The 1521 is a ceramic BASED compound that still offers very effective braking power. Price is below if interested give me a call at 216-780-8825 to order or go direct to website http://ampdautosport.com/brake-pads/corvette/ and use promo code z28 when checking out for forum discount.

If only street driven then ceramic pads - I decided Powerstop Z26, but have not installed yet. There are several posts sharing results from dust level testing and feedback on the C7 forum.

If using for HPDE/track - then will just have to clean often.

I have to be honest, I switched brands and still had dust on my stock Z06 rims. So I had them powdered coated black so it doesn't show as much!

This wont necessarily keep brake dust OFF your wheels but you can get the wheels ceramic coated which will help tremendously when cleaning them.

Dieter Zetsche says: "European customers want brakes that stop, irrespective of if they dust. American customers want brakes without dust or noise........whether or not they stop."

if you have a problem, dont cover it up, fix it.

just go with different pads, there are plenty of low/no dust street pads out there. problem solved

I just ignore it. Then again I have black wheels. Carbotech XP8s that dust like crazy. Every time I wash the wheels I'm amazed at the dust that comes off.

Lots of good suggestions. The armor all spray stuff works well. A low dust pad like 1521s work well too.

Ditto. I recently switched to black CF10 wheels. The dust doesn't bother me nearly as much as it did when I had the OEM gray wheels. Even with lots of dust, it's easy enough to clean them:

1) I use my Master Blaster blower to get any loose dust off.
2) I use normal car shampoo from Adams to lightly clean off the wheels.
3) Dry thoroughly.
4) If I'm feeling motivated I'll add some Rejex. Otherwise I stop after #3.

I'm using Powerstop Z26 and never need to use a towel or brush to clean my front wheels. My rear wheels are still in front of OEM pads, so they need regular maintenance.
