[ZR1] Tires for max hookup

Tires for max hookup
I have a stock 2010 ZR1 with 6500 miles and original tires. The originals are still in excellent shape with no dry rott. They are just getting too hard for max performance.
Last weekend at an airport runway 1/4 drag event the car was real difficult to get out of the hole. My brothers 17 Grand Sport automatic would leave me out of the hole, making me play catch-up.
So the question is "what are my options"? Should I go with Sport Cups for the rear? PS2's? or would something else hook better to fit the stock rim? If I go this route, I'd want something that would be stable to run with the original front tires.
What about a set of different rear wheels and sticky DR's for the strip use?
Your experience and advice would be appreciated.

I am in the same boat with my 2010 with 11600 miles on it. Tires do not grip at ALL! I will follow along to see what recommendations come about!

I replied to your "Airport drag" thread with the following post, hopefully there's some useful info for you in it .
Here's what I would do and I bet a lot of members would recommend:
Leave the stock 20" wheels/tires alone. 20" is too big of a wheel for any OPTIMAL performance, though they can do very well. Nobody makes a good straight line 20" tire, and I know several people are going to say it so I'll address them now, the 335/20" Mickey Thompson ET Street S/S is literally a crash waiting to happen. Far as I know they're on a massive back order....To continue:
Then go out and buy a set of 19" OR VERY SPECIFIC 18" wheels that will clear the massive Carbon Ceramics on the ZR1. As I know, only a few companies make an 18" option that works without grinding the brakes. 18" will hook better, but you may not need it, and a set of replica 19" wheels will look nearly OEM and will do awesome.
Once you decide on wheels, there's tires to choose from. Now you can either get drag radials, which are only good at going in a straight line up to about 150 where they usually start to get wobbly (They can go higher just be sure you know what you're doing). Or there's a more "both worlds" tire such as the Toyo R888R (Newer version of the super popular R888). These tires are going to hook pretty well, definitely will handle stock power and up to about 750 wheel with relative ease (2nd gear that is. FYI, 1st will always be a joke pretty much).
Drag radials:
Mickey Thompson - 18"
Hoosier - 18"
Nitto NT05R - 19" (345/30/19 NT05Rs fit great on a 19" replica and look nearly original FYI, seen many ZR1/Grand Sport/Z06 guys do it)
Or you could do a 335/30/18 or 345/30/19 (I think it is) Toyo R888R which is better suited for track (Turns) and half mile/1 mile runs. Whereas a drag radial is better suited to 1/8th or 1/4 mile runs. Drag radials alter your cars handling, on ramps are no longer G-meter testing grounds . Sidewalls are way too soft for that. However the R888Rs are meant to take turns and hook close to a drag radial.
Let us know if you have any more questions.

I just swapped out stock mpss from my 2010 with 6500 miles, for 345/30/19 toyo R888 on different wheels and wow, what a difference. Stock tires caused a spinfest at 1/2 throttle. New tires hook and book!

Many people carry them and can do it. Personally though people I know used House of Wheels, specifically working with a guy named Bob I believe. Here's a link to the page: http://www.houseofwheelsonline.com/corvette_copies.php
If you call them I think they can hook you up with the wheels/tires and you bolt on and go. Could be wrong though, don't quote me.
What tires are you thinking? R888R or NT05R or?

Probably the NT05R would hook better. Though at stock power, the R888R will hook just fine as well as handle turns and wet roads better. The R888R is actually a track tire that hooks like a drag radial. It's up to you.

the CONTINENTAL EXTREMECONTACT SPORT in stock ZR1 power/sizes are not a good option?

So 345/30/19 rear tire, and what size/offset for the wheel please ?
Stock ZR1 rear wheel : 20" x 12" +59 offset
Stock ZR1 front wheel : 19" x 10" +40 offset
Which spacer with 19" rear Wheel ?

My 10' also had the original tires when purchased in 2015. I replaced all tires (PS-ZP) a few months ago and it made a BIG difference. Obviously the tires from 2010 while looked good, were old and hard and I had no traction through 3rd gear.

What tires would anyone recommend for someone who does only street driving with the occasional Spirited street driving. Well Ok.........more than the occasional Spirited drive on the street! I just don't see me doing any track days or drag racing to warrant buying drag radials and different wheels. I would like to try the 1/4 runs and a track day once just to see what I can do in the car..
thanks in advanced.
