Not only that, but pushrod length would be off, so anyone that measures pushrods would notice something was off.

How in the world did they missed putting the lash caps on? I just received my heads from AHP the past Saturday, upon opening the box was typed in bold " DO NOT FORGET TO INSTALL LASH CAPS" about 10 times, highlighted in red. you couldn't have taken the heads out of the box without seeing it. Ray Charles and Stevie Wonder wouldn't have missed it!

I received a phone call from the Service Manager who stated 'they know they screwed up and will makes things right!' I said I hope you are a man of your word!
Tomorrow they hopefully will be able to remove the head and see what the damage is exactly.
From there they will make a determination as to their plan.
I requested I get a phone call when the heads is removed!
I know some of you won't understand as to how I feel but to be honest its as if someone died.
I would appreciate any negative comments about my feelings you keep to yourself, its pretty raw right now!!

Fastest solution, I think. GM LS7 short block. Heads from AH, no core for one head on them. Clean the oil system while waiting on parts.
I can totally understand your feelings at this moment.

I think the fact that they are already owning up to it is great news.
Just keep in mind, this to shall pass.

This is why I do everything to my car myself. Glad the dealership is owning up to it and replacing it, but hopefully this time they have an actual ASE certified GM technician who knows what they are doing work on it.

Just a tip, and maybe you're already doing this. Try to get any commitments or admissions in writing. At least voicemail. In the event someone up the food chain denies reimbursement, any documented admission of fault would become valuable.
Again, good luck on a speedy resolution.

AHP doesn't install these. You are suppose to take lash caps, rockers, and pushrods off your old heads yourself before sending them to AHP and transfer them to the reworked heads when the get shipped back to you.

I know its very unlikely a lash cap could come off during shipping but it is possible one could come off. In fact we have had customers ship heads to us without removing the lash caps and upon removal of the heads from the box we have found caps in the the bottom of the box (came off during shipping).
Again this is highly unlikely the caps would come off during shipping but since its a possibility that it could occur we do not ship the heads with the caps installed.
All our heads ship out with giant caution notes stating "must install intake valve lash caps".
We request customers remove the intake valve lash caps before shipping but if a customer forgets and ships us his heads with lash caps installed we make a note of it, bag the caps and tape them directly bellow the giant note/warning stating "Must Install Intake Valve Lash Caps".
The OP asked us to call the dealer and speak with them about what occurred. When we spoke with the dealership service writer as well as the actual Tech that did the work about why the caps were not reinstalled and if he noticed the warning's/reminders to install the caps that are all over the packing. The Tech said he did see all the warnings/cautions to install the lash caps but for some reason thought the warnings did not apply to him (his words).
With that said even if he thought all the warning notes did not apply to him there are still several other warning signs something is wrong as you start to reassemble without lash caps. The tech should have noticed how much lower the intake valve sits than the exhaust valve without the cap installed (the caps are pretty thick). The tech should have noticed the lack of preload on the intake side vs the preload on the exhaust side when he was tightening the rockers. The tech should have noticed the loud tapping noise he would have heard the second he started the car with no lash caps installed. Forgetting to install anything when reassembling a vehicle is unacceptable, especially something as vital as intake valve lash caps.

We don't ship our heads with the lash caps installed for liability reasons.
