Mechman Alternator and wiring kit question
Recently purchased a 240amp Mechman alternator but has anyone ever done the wiring upgrade and ran straight back to the battery? if so how long of wire was used?
Is the factory battery cables not thick enough to provide power in the higher rpms?
thanks in advance

The wiring kit I've seen goes from the alternator to the fuse box, not to the battery.

Ahh thank you for your response. Ya they are telling me its best if i go straight from the alternator straight to the battery with both cables but they are unsure how long the cables need to be. Im just unsure if i "have" to do this upgrade as well

What issue do you have and what are you trying to fix? You should be buying it from Bret anyways, not direct from Mechman.

Im not having any problem right now I'm just trying to prevent any problems. I have a new motor going in the car next week and its going to be seeing about 8,000 rpms, i have an electric water pump, stereo system and 240amp alternator. I can't find any info on here so figured id ask and i also have no idea who Bret is. Mechman are the ones telling me i need this wiring upgrade but have no idea how much wire i need so it feels as though i don't really need it. Just don't want to dig back through the car again after its back together.

Bret is the guy on this forum that sells the alternators. He sells them less than mechman and better service.
Good luck getting any alternator/part to last at 8k rpm.

My factory alternator didn't last at 7,000 and went through 2 of those in a year. My first one the pulley came off while i was at the track. So in two years I've had 3 on my car and this new setup needs to be right.
Maybe Bret can chime in and help me out?! Or if you can lead me in his direction that'd be great as well. Thanks again bud

My mechman didn't last going to 7500, let alone 8k. Front bearing went out.
Search for Bret, or billet tech alternators. It will pop up.

any alternator is going to have problems spinning 7k+ that is why they made underdrive pulleys for people that race and dont want to burn out their alternators... the factory one wont hold up to that punishment either.

Yes thats what I'm afraid of but theres got to be plenty of people out there running 7,500-8,000 that don't always have issues? I have an ATI under drive pulley as well always had that which is why Mechman told me to get this "custom"one built as it'd be designed for the under drive and supposed to withstand the higher rpms. Just can't find much of anything on it

I would look into doing a custom alternator pulley that is larger to slow it down for high RPM use IMO.

Bret is the man to talk to for sure. My alternator from him has been perfect but I don't go over 7000 rpm ever. My battery is relocated to the back but wiring for the alternator is all stock stuff.
