Default Hitting 4th gear in the 1/4 mile?

I have an all stock 2010 ZR1. Should I be crossing the line in 4th gear or at the top of 3rd gear?

Depends are you RWHP (DA corrected), size of rear tire, and driving skill.
With a 25" drag radial on the back of my Z06, I shift into 4th at the 1000' mark or there abouts.

With a 26+ inch tire and my extended rev limit (7400), I can stretch 3rd into the traps at the expense of trap speed.

I'm all stock 2010 ZR1. C6 Z06 gear ratios and rev limits are very different.

My apologies, I thought I posted in the ZR1 section.

I think you'll find that the same rules apply.
3rd gear transmission ratio of 1.21 and a 6500 RPM limit in ZR1 is roughly 124 MPH.

3rd gear transmission ratio of 1.30 and a 7000 RPM limit on Z06 is roughly 124 MPH

A stock ZR1 that traps in excess of 124 MPH needs to shift into 4th gear.
If you are lazy on the shifts, are down on power (corrected DA), or a different (taller) diameter rear wheel, you won't trap better than 124, hence you'll reach the traps at the top of 3rd gear.

Make sense ?

I have the original tires still on and wasnt able to hook up at the airport drag event I attended a month ago. I was crossing the line in 3rd without bumping the limiter.
I have new wheels and 19X345 TOYO R888R's coming soon. I hope the new rubber will hook enough to allow shifting into 4th.

That makes sense...you spent too much of the 1320' spinning, and once it hooked, you ran out of space and went thru the traps somewhere near the top of 3rd in the high 118- 122 MPH trap (I'm guessing).

The 345 Toyo should be way superior to what you had before, but if you find yourself on a prepped drag strip, I real set of drag radials will perform much better

My current tires are nearly 8 years old. I think my Suburban can out 60 foot my ZR1!
