Ls7 valve springs vs. ls2, ls3 and ls9
As the title of the thread reads--- does the ls7 use the same valve springs and retainers as the ls2, ls3 and ls9?
Is is it the same part number same manufacturer
or
is it different part number different manufacturer ?
ahp, Katech-- etc please chime in.

All the other LS engines (2,3,9, etc..) setup around 1.8" valve springs install height while the LS7 sets up higher, around 1.95" valve spring install height.

The LS2/3/9 springs are the same. The LS2/3 retainers are the same. The LS9 retainers are different. The LS7 springs and retainers are different yet.

in your experience when you see ls7's that drop a valve do those engines with dropped valves also happen to have a broken valve spring on the valve that dropped as follows:
1 each and every time you have seen a dropped valve
2. Some of the time - some springs are broke some are not.
3. You have never seen a broken valve spring on a motor that drops a valve - specifically broken on the valve that dropped ?
are all springs ls2,3,7 and 9 made by the same supplier for gm to assemble the motors?

Number 3 is your winner.
We never see broken stock LS7 spring on a LS7's that dropped a valve due to excessive valve guide clearances (Fatigued valve that broke due to excessive guide ID clearances).
We have seen a TON of broken LS2 (early Yellow design) springs. We have not seen but one or two broken LS3 (blue design) springs over the years. Interestingly for some reason most of the broken LS2 springs we have seen over the years didn't result in a valve falling into the cylinder but the valve spring getting caught/tangled in the valve and then holding the valve open so the piston can beat it up.

Short Lived
Not trying to hijack the thread. But where are all these motors built, at the same assembly line plant in Bowling Green?
