Default A.C. might need a recharge

Driving into work today, my A.C. started to modulate between cold air and hot air. Out would go hot when I come to a stop, but go cold street driving for a bit. Is this a case for a recharge or something worse? Also, engine temps were a bit warmer than usual - 245° F.

Yes - sounds like it needs a recharge as when you stop it turns hot.

Bring it to a shop and have them vaccuum suck all the old frion out, then fill it back up with new freon. This is the proper way of doing it and will let you know if there are any leaks in your system. (if freon is low, good chance theres a leak somewhere FYI)

Make certain your cooling fan is operating correctly. Condenser relies on cooling fan at stops, when moving above 30 mph it turns off if a/c hi side pressure is normal.
