Default Wheel/tire question

Hey guys I currently have Nitto 275/35/18 up front and MT ET Street 325/30/19 in rear. Car came with this setup when I bought it. My question is, will I have any issues at all if I go with 285/35/18 front and 335 or 345/30/19 setup? Would like slightly wider up front just to have a more flush sitting tire in relation to the fender as long as it won't rub. And will a 335 or 345 fit on the rear wheel without any issues?

Wheels are Repro C7Z wheels. No idea on the widths of them I'm assuming 18x10/19x12

thanks in advance

I tried the 285x18 up front. Fit fine, but I hated them. Steering went to crap. Felt sluggish and unresponsive. The 285's are like balloons. I then tried 295's (with 19' wheels). Too wide for street driving. The car wants to push now. I'm going back to 275's next time. 275 in a 19" wheel is perfect.

Ah I see.. well darn. Guess I'll keep the 275s then. Any opinions or experience in regards to switching from 325s to either a 335 or 345 for the rears? I'm assuming Mickey Thompson ET streets can be had in these sizes no?

Lots of folks run 345 rears..... I do. MPSS is the tire I have been using. Good all around tire that you can actually get home if you get caught in the rain. The downside to a non-run-flat, is the need to resolve a flat tire if you happen to get one...... I keep a plug kit and 12v air pump in the car just for this eventuality.

285 fronts would be a better balance with the 345 rears and the 35 front aspect will make sure you don't have codes show up on the DIC. I ran 295/35-18 and 335/30-19 NT-05s and the handling balance was good. I got slight rub from the 295/35s on the front but others have run those tires and not had rub. Alignment differences appear to make the difference.

My 07Z's 275/35/18 and 345/30/19 Nitto Invos replaced the OE Goodyears in 2009 and never caused a DIC warning.

I bought the Continental Tire ContiComfortKit from the Tire Rack for about $80 and when I sold the Z in 4/16 I took it out of the LR hatch compartment and put it nack in the box it came in. Only then did I discover that the box had a sticker that said Use before 01/2015. Happily I didn't get any flats, but it appears the tire sealant wouldn't have worked if I needed it.

The moral of the story is always read the instructions.

Here is a pic of my vette. Currently stock gy 275 front. Was never changed. And the rear was changed by last owner to pirelli zero 355!/30 zr19. It doesn't stick passed wheel well. But looking straight at it. It has a nice full wheel well look. I'm sure the pss will look the same. Since they are. The same tires abd what I read pss actually run bigger than stock wheels. Wider even though still listed as 275. Maybe not quite as wide as 355 I have now. But probably won't be that big of a difference

275 front would probably be okay with a 335 or 345 rear. I currently have 285 front 355 rear which is about a 2% taller ratio in the rear vs stock. Doesn't seem to be enough to mess up the active stability/traction control. No rubing with either the 285 or 355. They are a little bulgy on the rims (stock 9.5 and 12) but not too bad. You may be giving up some steering response going to a wider front tire.

Ok screw it final answer I'm going 285 345 pss instead of sticking to stock sizes. I don't track. Never will. Don't drag race. Just my weekend summer cruiser. I hope no. Codes or lights come up my stock gy run flat front and pirelli 355 in year don't trip any codes and that rear tire totally ruins ratio

Most on here report no codes with those tires - enjoy.

I warned you...... 18x285's suck.

275/345 combo works just fine. I had that combo for a couple years and NO CODES up to 190 mph.

Haha dang u Mike. Gonna make me hesitant again. Seems like a million people are rocking the 285/345. God i wish I can see pics side by side of the cars side view. I'm not getting the 345 for thickness from behind. I want my wheel wells to look the way they do now.

I need 345's in the rear.... No traction without them, and I am frugal with my money. It causes me great angst to spin, knowing these damn tires are about $500 each.

The 19x 295's I have up front how are friggin awesome in the twisty bits. They grip like crazy. They totally suck driving on the street though..... Damn things find every f'ing road defect there is, and pull the car to wherever they might be. On a track, I bet they would be perfect........... The 18x285's were "comfortable".... 65 caddy comfy..... They were just....., for lack of a better description, "lazy" when doing quick right/left yanks on the steering wheel. You know, the "fun" thing about driving this car. The 19x275's I had up front were perfect. Good grip, but not so good they pulled the car all over the place.

I have two sets of wheels, in case you were wondering.... Finspeed wheels.... 18/19 and 19/19. I swap them out from time to time. That's why I bounce back and forth with the front tire size.

19/19 is the best combo I've tried.

Well I got important thinking to do overnight. Since it's just my town weekend cruiser. No track. Just city streets.

You have alluded several times to the look of the tires and no concern for performance. If you can put up with the trammeling Michael D mentions the 285/345 would look best and suit your needs. They would also be a better cornering balanced set than the 275/345s, and understeer about the same or slightly more than the 275/325s, which is mild unless on a road course (which is not in your plans) on mid-speed long corners. The 295s are recommended for a 10" minimum rim and mounted on a 9 1/2" tire the sidewalls would bulge and look a little funny

I'm not intentionally alluding your input or Mikes input. It's just this next set will be on for 5 years since the car early gets driven. So I'm just being to careful I guess. And the 275 isn't my indecisive issue as the 275 run flat is on the car right now and I love the way my car looks. I'm worried from the side view. I take off the pirelli p zero 355 that's in the back and go back to stock. I'm gonna look at alot of wheel well. I'm not concerned with someone driving behind me and seeing wide tires. 325 are pretty wide. And I've read pss actually run wider. It's the size view scare to me as I never seen them on z06 riding stock height. I'll probably order stock sizes and just try it.
