Anybody here go from a supercharged Z06 to a ZR1?
Bought my Z06 last year and quickly had the heads done and installed an A&A supercharger. It's been a great all around car. 620whp on 91 with no other mods, good gas mileage, reliability and it's extremely comfortable. With that said I am possibly considering selling the Z06 to my brother to pick up a ZR1.
Anybody here gone this route? Did you regret it? Will I miss how the LS7 rips all the way to redline? Will the ZR1 handle the heat better? I ask because I get heat soak in the Z06 in anything over 80 degree weather really quick.
Too bad the C7 Z06's rear is just too damn ugly to get past :P

Subscribed... I nearly bought a C7, but opted for a C6Z instead and installed a blower. I'm considering a ZR1 or Carbon Edition now.

What about if I want to push the Centri further? At 700+ whp which model is the better option? Also curious about how it "feels". The LS7 is amazing because it feels as though it's building power all the way to the fuel cut off. Looking for someone with experience trading the LS7 for the LS9 and if the overall ZR1 package is just better than a boosted Z06. Looks wise they are almost the same to me, weight wise I'm assuming it's close given the added weight of the supercharger setup on my Z06. I'm assuming that they handle similarly when optioned or setup similarly?

Burning Brakes
All ZR1s have magnetic ride control and carbon ceramic brakes. Only z07 optioned Z06s have those. The gearing is different too. 6th is still for pulling in a zr1, so gas mileage is less.
Ugh is everyone getting a zr1 before me?

They are getting really affordable and since the C7 is just too damn ugly for me the ZR1 seems like the next natural progression.

Melting Slicks
When I installed the MGW shifter in my ZR1 I ordered extra heat shielding. When I had the shifter out I covered the tunnel. It helped alot, before that though heat came thru to your legs.
I did not go from a charged ZO6, but I can say if you had heads,cam,headers... theres that raw power feel... that the ZR1 lacks untill you hit 3200 RPM. My wife didnt care much about riding in my modded/ loud LS3 but she likes the ZR1. I hope to change that soon, Ha

I had a 06' Z06 with a centri blower and supporting mods. Car made 620whp. I now have a ZR1 with ported heads, modded bricks, upper pulley and headers. Currently the car makes about the same power as my Z06 but doesn't have the same amount of mods. ZR1 makes more torque then my Z06 did. Both blowers don't like heat. However, on my ZR1 I have a magnuson HX and based on my dashlogic gauge my IAT 2 has dropped significantly on WOT pulls. The mag ride is nice, a lot better then my Z06. I think the LS9 is better motor for boost but thats just my opinion.
You cant go wrong with either car!

4th gear is the same for both the Z06 and the ZR1 but because the Z06 has an additional 500 RPM redline, it has an additional 11 MPH higher speed in 4th gear vs the ZR1. 150 MPH in the ZR1 and 161 MPH in the Z06 in 4th gear.
In 5th and 6th gear, the ZR1 is geared lowered than the Z06 in 2009-2011 and geared nearly the same in 5th(.71:1) and 6th(.50:1) in the 2012 and 2013(unless the 2012 and 2013 ZR1 has the PDE option with the 2009-2011 transmission ratios) as the Z06(.74:15th and .50:1 6th).
There were TWO different transmissions used in the ZR1. The higher top speed(205) of the ZR1 is because it has 133 HP over a stock Z06(198). That changes once the Z06 has the same, or more, horsepower than the ZR1, because of the addition of a supercharger, etc.
When Lingenfelter Engineering wanted to do 9.8 in the 1/4, in addition to mods to the supercharger, they installed 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gears from the Z06 into their 2009 ZR1's transmission case. Why? Because the lower gear ratios helps acceleration.
The Z06 gets better gas mileage than the ZR1 because of it's higher engine compression ratio, not because of it's gearing. The ZR1 received the different transmission(ME2) in 2012 in order to increase it's highway gas mileage to 22 MPG from the 21 MPG of the original transmission(MH3) used in 2009-2011, and still below the Z06's gas mileage.
