Default Thoughts on advertised "Head Fix"

I was looking at an ad for a 07 Z06 and this was the sellers comment.

"Heads were replaced under warranty last year. If you know these cars that's a big deal. They are brand new GM performance parts heads. Work was done by Abel Chevrolet in Rio Vista."

My thought is that the new GM heads would potentially have the same valve guide issue. Any thoughts? Am I wrong?

Fixed with the stuff that will break. So yea your going to have to take it somewhere that actually changes the guides and fixes the issue.

You could check with Rich at Abel to see what they used. Rich has installed quite a few of AHP's heads under extended warranty programs. If AHP heads were used on that car, you're in a much better place.

That is a really good idea. I presume he could probably look it up by the VIN. Thank you very much.

Rich with Abel isn't just a standard dealership They specialize in Corvettes. he and his wife race them. If he did the head work on them. Id guarantee he sent the heads out and had fixed and installed guides and rods. but id call abel and ask for Rich. but id relax. Rich is legit. I actually was there about a month ago for new tires to get installed. Great place.

I wish we had someone like Rich here in NC.

I have warranty replacement heads on my car too. 14k miles later they're still tight as new. The big problem to avoid is the machining error in the concentricity of the guide bores vs seats. If your heads don't have the error, you should be good, at least for a while depending on use. The aftermarket rebuilt heads have can have superior components and last longer, but there are stock ls7 out there that have high mileage. So if the seller has had the new heads checked with a wiggle test, and the new heads are still good, you're good.

And GMPP heads are not just OEM Ls7 heads, so take that into account. New OEM ls7 heads will have same problem, reworked GMPP LS7 may not.

Rich is a great guy and Able is a very good outfit.
Give him a call or shoot him an email and see what he says. He has installed a lot of our heads under warranty over the years.
