Default stealthfrc's ZR1 build thread

figured i start one of these.
i purchased a 2011 zr1 out of California about 2 months ago.
i started collecting parts right away.
also found out the car was part of the melted brick club. luckily no engine damage but the coating on the rotors needs to be redone. plan is to enjoy the car till winter then send the blower out for porting and repairs along with a few other mods. time will tell.
mod list:
synergy intake
ID1300's
flex fuel sensor
grip tech 2.45 pulley
TPIS 102MM throttle body
kong ported LPE snout
modded stock intercooler bricks
edelbrock HX that was modded for -20 in and outlets
billet blower coolant adaptors that were modded for dual -12 fittings
custom y fittings for 2-12 to 1 -20 fitting.
custom built ice tank,
a lot of time and thought went into the ice tank. my buddy wanted to try some things out and i also didn't want the thing mounted to the floor, i wanted this install clean and very easily reversible. he came up with a custom mount for it and its rock solid. the whole setup flows some serious water and looks pretty cool with all the fab work he did. has some serious talent.

he also modded a set of stock Downpipes, i didn't feel the need to buy headers at this point with the build and i needed an exhaust that would pass "emissions" up this way so he gutted the cats and welded 3" tube so its a nice smooth flowing exhaust, you would never know they were even modded.

wheels are 19/20 forgestar cf5v, i love these wheels, i had them on my mustang. by far my favorite wheel made by them
i also have a set of 18" f14's for the rear coming for a drag radial.

mods to be installed once i get the car back

DD mods full audio upgrade.
front and rear speakers
sub
headunit

carbon mirrors
lightwurkz carbon fiber head light bezels

That's going to be one bad ride my man. I'm in the hunt for my very own Z. I am pretty set on a white on black set up like yours.

Since I'm a newb I'm going to ask a stupid question. What's the melted brick club?

thanks, i love white/black. its not very common and looks great in person.

this is what the melted brick is. its the intercooler brick on the zr1, they melt due to high intake temps and continuously being run hard without the proper upgrades. luckily there wasn't much damage. i purchased the car this way, it wasn't disclosed to me. i purchased from a dealer out in cali, i have a few disputes with them over a few undisclosed issues with the car. I'm not letting it stop me from enjoying it tho.

So the intercooler brick is basically the manifold or the cooling unit under the supercharger?

pretty much, very thin aluminum that can't take the heat in some cases.

That sucks, but you are very lucky one of those intercooler cores didn't rupture on you. Then you would have some real issues. Nice looking ZR

Oh, it did. There was no coolant in the res at all. Just lucky the car still runs fine and shows no signs of issues.

Very sharp Z! Can't wait to see what your impression is on the mods! How do you like the Raptor? Did you have a Gen 1 Raptor? Thx.

thanks.
the raptor is an amazing truck. one of my absolute favorite vehicle's I've owned. i have yet to come across anything i don't like about it.
i did not have a gen 1, when they came out i was doing way to much driving to justify having one, with the gen 2 the fuel economy is much better and i don't drive nearly as much now.

few more updates. the ice tank is finally done. exactly what i wanted, like i stated, i wanted something that would not need to be bolted to the floor. mounts are rock solid and the whole setup could easily be fit into any other car.

i also did a test fit and mounted up the new shoes, i can't wait to get this thing back on the ground.

Looks great! And kudos to you for taking the time to figure out how to not bolt it to the floor.

How did you find out the bricks were melted? Just took it sort to inspect it in general? Anything that tipped you off to it?

All ZR1 owners should verify the condition of their intercoolers. I found the same damage with one of my intercoolers when I took mine out.

it showed no signs until I got a dashlogic and started watching my intake temps.
just cruising they were 130's and after just a 1 gear pull they would go up to 180.

thats because most people are not willing to wait for the bezels lol. they take months to get. they also are not willing to do the work involved to do this, its been a giant project, thats forsure.
