Default Msd atomic air intake manifold

good day all,

I just picked up a 2007 Z06 and car is completely stock, heads and rockers were already fixed by AHP. I have installed Borla Stinger II.
I was wondering if it is worth installing the MSD intake on a stock motor or port the stock. I don't plan on going in the motor. just bolt ons.

thanks

I have a msd ported by Tony mamo. It’s a good piece, I say get it. Don’t have to port it if you don’t want to though

Mamo ported MSD, CAI, headers, high flow cats, X-pipe, 102 Nick Williams TB and tune will provide nice gains. I'm making 525.1rwhp with this setup and non-ported MSD and stock cam. Also ported Stage 2 heads at 11.5 to 1 compression. Porting the MSD could gain another 8 or 9rwhp.

Yes its worth it as far as bolt on mods go for this car. You will need to tune the car after installing this though, if that matters to you.

Prepare for: 1) possible hitting the firewall at rear 2) re-torque/sealing occasionally 3) recommendation for the 102 TB or at minimum a ported stocker and 4) grinding to avoid water pump area touching

all talked about here several times.

I only had to re-torque the hold down bolts a handful of times. I check it every now and then but they are still torqued down.

Rear firewall issue is solved with a button head bolt.

If running a stock TB, it's a good idea to get the adapter from MSD for a better fit.

Having to grind the water pump/intake is hit or miss. I did not have to, even with a .050" mill on my heads.

This is def'ly a 'bolt-on' that requires occasional 'hands-on'

I had mine professionally installed and ask 21st Century about the bolts backing out or getting lose and they said not to worry about it - they used locktight on them. So I haven't check them or messed with it. I thought I had some vibration on the bolt up against the firewall, but have not heard anything since I first picked up the car after the work. You can really hear the MSD intake with the larger throttle body and CAI taking in the air on acceleration. I must have made a big difference in how the engine breathes. But you have to get the exhaust our better on the back end with the headers, high flow cats and X-pipe to get the maximum HP gains. I don't know if it would be worth it with the stock exhaust manifold and cats.

It's a worthwhile upgrade, but there are better "first mods" in my opinion. Halltech 108, Headers, tune, MGW shifter, those would be my first mods with the best returns in hp/dollar.

i agree those are better first mods but I would hold off on a tune for when everything is done. No sense in spending money twice.

My Mamo MSD picked up a good bit more than my 2” headers but headers should still be done first as they’ll enable thebintake to do its job.

I've had a mis-fire lately and have checked a number of things. Last night I tightened the MSD Intake bolts and most were somewhat loose. I'll check today to see if the mis-fire is gone.

I just installed the new MGW with its lowerbox and I'm very satisfied with the mod! It'll then be intake, and headers.

I have already installed the MGW shifter with lower box, also K&N cold air intake, throttle body was already ported. Installing JOC shocks and sway bars this weekend. MSD intake and tune looks like it will be next on the list.

When I ran the car up to 6500 in 2nd and ~5K in 3rd with full throttle today, it ran fine with no engine miss. It appears the problem was solved by tightening all the MSD intake bolts that I could reach.
