Hello Members, what kind of cleaners you guys used when cleaning brake dust that is penetrated into the standard chrome wheels of your coupe ??

I use and like Adam's Polish products. Be sure you know if your wheels are polished or actually chrome. I know the polished have a clear coat on them that can be damaged

The best wheel cleaner (non-acid) that I have used is made by Sonax. It is a bit pricey and should be used as directed (e.g., don't let it dry on the wheel, but spray it on a dry rim, be in a well ventilated area as it smells truly really bad), but damn does it work. I use it after track days and the wheels look great.

Disclaimer: I have NO connection with Sonax except that I am a happy consumer.

The wheels that I have are the factory ones, that are standard chrome. Thanks for the recommendations, I will check it out.

I was very surprised at how well it worked with just plain water. I tried it on my factory chrome wheels as well as my matte black wheels on my other vehicle. No scratches.

Pinnacle products have become my favorite lately, their polishes are incredible so I bought their wheel cleaner and it's great. Like the sonax, it smells and it's pricey but works really well. One thing I've learned, buy yourself one of the speed brushes, wow, they are awesome for getting to the barrels, calipers, and around the wheel after spraying the cleaner. Auto Geek has some of the best prices, they always are running sales.

I just use Dawn and water with a flattened toilet bowl brush to scrub the barrels. Brake dust will come off chrome with a terrycloth towel. Make it shine with any wheel polish

if u don't want to have to order stuff online and need is sort of ASAP, then get some Meguiars mirror bright wheel cleaner....it's available at most auto parts stores and is reasonably priced....works great and literally "melts" away brake dust

Owned toys for 30+ years - Never had an issue, or a need for any wheel cleaner but I suppose I need help as I wash my vehicles regularly so the buildup of dirt or brake dust is not for a long period. Not insulting, just saying - maybe I need some help

Is this a vehicle you just purchased that wasn't cleaned regularly maybe?

Sonax is what I use. I have been happy with the product even with heavy brake dust from road course.

I almost forgot...I have used Griot's Garage wheel cleaner for the past year when absolutely necessary. Pretty happy with it.

I just spray some Bleche White on mine and spray em off... Works better on a warm wheel... Mine are Comp Grey's so NO water spots.. lol

Simple green , no hard acid cleaners here.....but typically my car does 50-100 miles between washes so just adams car wash like the rest of car.

Is there anything out there that fights off brake dust (it's ridiculous) one or two rides and rims are filthy again. I can't ride like that so I clean them almost each time before I go out.

There is pretty much nothing you can do about brake dust - except some ceramic brakes. I consider it a mark of performance to have brake dust on the wheels :-) I know it's a bit psychotic, but heck.

What helps tremendously and I have done it to all my cars wheels, is to have a ceramic coat applied to it, I have Optimum Gloss Coat on two cars and Gyeon Wet Coat on the other two. It helps a bit for not having the brake dust attach to the wheel, but the awesome part is that after application/curing all you do is hose down the wheel or use soap and water or just wipe it off.

The only catch is that the wheel has to be super clean and prepped when you apply it and you have to follow directions closely. Best to have a professional apply it. I have it applied to the inside of the drum and the wheels just get much cleaner and look better for longer.

I use a product called Rejex on my chrome wheels. While it doesn't necessarily keep the dust off, it makes it easy to wipe the dust off with just a rag. It is kind of like a wax and works quite well for me.

Armor All wheel protectant. My CTS-V is horrendous for brake dust, this stuff works very good at keeping them pretty clean. Just follow the directions or watch the youtube videos to apply (it's easy but people manage to screw it up).

Just an example below, it can be found cheaper if you look around (I got a bunch of them from Amazon awhile back at a good price, but there's cheaper options now).

The issue I had with this product is that for chrome wheels, it leaves a rainbow effect on the wheels. It probably works ok, but I didn't like the look it had on the wheels. Something in the product reflects light like a prism when applied to chrome wheels. Might be fine for non chrome wheels.
