C6 Z06 vs C6 ZR1
I saw that a gorgeous ZR1 sold quickly on Corvette Forum and I really wanted that car. It brought back the reason why I went with a C6Z versus a C6 ZR1 - the money. Obviously I wanted the more exclusive car, but I didn't have, or couldn't justify the extra $30K over the C6 Z to get into one basing it on a small difference in performance. Yes, stock to stock, the ZR1 is faster and definitely more exclusive and it think it will hold its value better due to the much lower production numbers. I have since modded my Z and it is as faster or faster than a ZR1, but damn - I still want one. But not enough to give up my Z. I would need to add one on to the one car collection as some point - good luck with that. But I have had to let several very low mile showroom new condition cars go like this one. Oh well, I'm happy with my car and have less debt. But the ZR1 is the one to have if you can afford it.

I'd love to drive a ZR-1 someday to compare. I still am obsessed with the fact that I have essentially a 700hp naturally aspirated sports car though. I'm good for now.

I drove one a few months ago and I thought it felt a little flat when you first get on it compared to my Z. But when the rpm gets up to 3,500+- the supercharger kicks in and the thing takes off like a rocket. I drove my Z after that and punched it in first at 20-30mph and it felt faster than the ZR1. I think it would be a very close race. My car has bolt ons and upgraded heads and is making 525rwhp. A cammed Z06 is going to walk a stock ZR1. I modded ZR1 - forget about it.

I made the leap from a C6z to the ZR1 and have never looked back. I have loved all my vettes but the ZR1 is a one of a kind all timer. Good luck!!

I recently saw a VR ZR1 on Ebay w 54K mi @ $49K (asking price)... I WAS/AM so tempted but as the OP stated.. a H/C/I/E C6Z that is paid for w 25K miles is hard to beat.... Love mine..

I think you just have to know yourself. I put too many miles on my Corvette, past and present, to pay a premium for car that will lose a tremendous amount of value with high miles. Plus, I can't help it but modify my cars, and again, that's a huge downside to a low production numbers vehicle.

A ZR1 will hold it's value better than most only if it has ridiculously low miles, in pristine new condition and is all stock. The one that sold is for a guy who wants a very low mile, like new example and is willing to pay for it. Generally these guys won't drive their cars much and are garage queens. It doesn't make sense for someone to buy a low mileage car, pay a premium and put a ton of miles on it - that is where you get huge depreciation. The guy that bought it new really took a hit. These cars where $120K when new.

I have both, the differences in the way they run and drive is noticeable, having been an owner of a Z06 and ZR1 as well as a 427/Vert at the same time, I can say that the Z06 felt like it had more power than the 427/Vert does, but the ZR1 is just on another level.

I'm content with my z07 car with the carbon fiber package. All the handling capability of the zr1 with the high revving big cube goodness of the ls7!

Enjoy what you have, when youre ready yrs later there will be plenty of low mi ZR1s to buy for way less.
Let someone else worry about depreciation all that while it collects dust in the meantime. Think all that is a colossal waste of time its cheaper to take a picture.
Cannot wrap my head around laying out that kind of money then telling themselves " I better not drive it or Ill get less later". That is friggin crazymaking.
thats like wondering who your wife might be with in 20 yrs if you split up

I don't know about there being tons of low miles ZR1s selling much cheaper down the road. More than likely they will keep depreciating for a while and at some point they will bottom out and go back up. It would be nice to pick one up at or near the bottom, but that is like timing the stock market - good luck with that.

As far as performance, I wouldn't call .3 seconds in the quarter mile a different league. The stock C6 Z06 does the quarter in 11.6 and the stock ZR1 is 11.3. However, in one test the ZO6 did it in 11.4. Mod the ZO6 and it's going to be faster than a stock ZR1. However, I would say it's in another league possibly on the top end speed and due to it's exclusivity (low production numbers). It's cool to have a car that you just don't see many of.
The Z06 is a monster as well, I enjoyed having a matching 2009 AO/Z06........but the difference in the 2 for me was the reason I sold/traded it and kept the 427/Vert, the 427 is a great engine for a NA motor.

I just moved up from my 06 Z to a 10 ZR1. ZR1 is a better car all around in my opinion, seat of the pants feel way different in the ZR1, Z06 was like a 2 stroke dirt bike, pulled great after 4k, LS9s torque is awesome at any rpm! Tranny is geared lower in the ZR1 no more 30 miles to the gallon. Brakes are phenominal and no break dust(YEAAHH). Both cars are awesome and I highly recommend either but if you can afford it the ZR1 is the king, you will not be disappointed!
