I see what you guys are saying about the lash caps, and the pictures seem to point to that. But would it really last 7k miles without those caps?

look at the wear on the rocker and the valve....it appears to have been running a long time before it failed so ultimately I would say yes...

It's at the shop that put the heads on now. So I'm going to try and swing by there and ask to see the heads again. I'm just hoping that if they weren't installed, the shop didn't throw them on real quick.

They may have only left off the one. But looking at your pictures it's pretty obvious that the lash cap was missing. You'd think that for as long as the LS7 has been around now, that the "Tech's" would know about these little details.

So the shop said everything was installed. They said the valve broke right above the keeper. That allowed the rocker arm to smash into the stem and retainer enough times to open up the retainer enough for the valve to fall through.
It seems to make sense to me, because the car ran fine up until the day it happened. All of a sudden I had a much louder valve train noise (I figure that's when the stem broke) and just a handful of miles later it dropped on me (the rocker arm pushed the stem through the retainer).
Either way I'm going to try and sell the block. Going with a new 440 from a place I have yet to decide on and Tony Mamo is building my heads and getting me a cam (and hopefully a short block too).

Ya if I️ was the shop I’d say that was the case too.... no need to put blame on themselves. To me that rocker arm was pretty worn out and there’s no reason for it to be unless the lash cap was gone

As said, I wouldn't believe the shop at all on this. They're probably just covering their incompetent azzes.
Your block is toast, scrap metal value. The cylinder liner is cracked in multiple locations. Typically the aluminum behind them is cracked too.

Are the other guides worn on the head at 6k Miles I don't see the guides being worn if you actually fixed the heads prior. I have mine checked at 20k and they were on the oem guide pm and they were only worn a little bit. Might want to talk to shop and clear this up....

Yep...which is why I would've wanted to witness with my own 2 eyes that all the lash caps were installed.

Yeah, I wish I was there to see it come off but I have to take their word for it at the moment. Anyway, I have a new LS7 440 short block on the way along with a Tony Mamo top end which should make a good amount of power. Thanks for all the advice, I'll be sure to post up stats in a new thread once it's all together and running, sometime mid-Feb hopefully.
