Don't get me wrong; I ABSOLUTELY LOVE making that LS7 roar! I just have to be careful because I might be buying a lot of rear tires!

Oh yeah it’s never enough but there is a point where to me anything over 800ish rwhp just isn’t useable or fun on the street anymore. I don’t track it much so I’m not looking for 1000+. 800 in my opinion is the sweet spot where it can still be daily’d and have a lot of fun with on the street.

RWD street car ~700rwhp and call it a day.

If you are spinning ~450rwhp on a stock 505SAE car, just means you have poor tires, old tires, or a combo of both. A good set of tires will hook 550+ with ease, and more performance oriented tires have no issue with 700-750 which is a good place to stop, because past that it becomes a pedal fest.

If car was AWD then 1100-1300awhp is a good place to be.

After my new engine goes in I'm shooting for 650 wheel. I think I'll be happy around there for the time being.

525 and I'm happy. 550 would be better, but I'm still happy.

557/540 is perfect for the street. I've 500 rwtq at the tires by 3600 rpms and it's a blast! There's plenty here that have more top end HP but their mid-range torque sucks, great for 1/4 mile but not near as usable on the street.

Do you feel like you need 755 horsepower, like in the new ZR1? I just wonder what I would do with it.

Sure, I know that more is always better, but I'm being serious here. How much horsepower is really useful?
I would spin my tires in 1st 2nd and 3rd on cold days until I got my MPSS tires. Now 1st gear goes with very little tire spin. 2nd and 3rd = no tire spin.

You may have a point there. I have not checked the date code on the tires. They would be the original tires, so they are pushing 5 years old, I'm sure. I'm still under 10,000 miles so I hate to throw them away due to cost. I'm driving it a good bit, so they should wear out in the next year or two, I would guess.

505HP. looks great, sounds great, that punch of acceleration feels great, but only lasts a few seconds and I'm breaking the speed limit in first gear. I'm in the city, so there's almost never a chance to open it up without other cars in my way. And plenty of cops and radar cameras. I would like more power anyway, but all I get out of it is the bragging rights, so its not logical.

Excellent thread! We all love high RWHP numbers and for me the build is the thrill once its complete the high is gone!

And everyone likes power until the blue lights start flashing in the rearview mirror!

I spent a few hours behind the wheel of a Callaway SC757 Z06. It was awesome but had so much power I didn’t feel like I could open it up bc in just a moment you were near or in triple digits. There was no running thru the gears like you’d do in a C5 Z or C6 GS. Doing that would put you in “straight to jail” speeds.

For purely street driving, I think 650 at the crank is about the limit of where you can have A lot fun.

15 years ago, everyone thought anything over 350hp was insane, unnecessary...and who needs to go that fast anyways!?

I have 700+ whp and I just dropped it off to Mike Norris Motorsports to add more boost and a little better tune. I drive on Hoosier drag slicks and hook fairly decent on the road. It really is just a personal preference.

YES!!

In my dream I have a car that makes the kind of power the old Sunoco 917/30 made. I think somewhere in the neighborhood of 1500 whp on a road course is going to be more than I can handle. That's what I want.

I was super happy with 615 whp on the street... and then I started doing 1/2 mile events. Now I'm at 710 whp and it feels just right Always want more though of course.
