i'm interested to see what you choose...I've been leaning heavily toward the sport cups. The reviews have described the grip as near drag radial level with great handling as well...it's gotta be warm outside for them to work well though, but most of us Zr1 owners are fair weather drivers anyway! Let us know what you choose please.

Look into replacing your wheels with a set of 18s and Toyo R888 tires. Our cars drive so much better with this setup.

I want to get rid of my PSC2's but i'm worried someone is going to gouge the hell out of my rims when changing them.

The problem with changing the tires is not getting them on and off the rims, but it is getting the bead to seat after the tire is on the rim.

I have been running these Nitto Invo 345/25/20's on the street rims of my track Z which makes just a little more RWP (570) than my stock 2010 ZR1, Plus it has an aluminum flywheel which makes it tougher on the initial throttle hit. I have been surprised at how well it can take 2nd gear heavy throttle. The ZR1 with the original Michelins at 80% of the tread, 2nd gear is very slippery and third is mostly OK but still a little sensitive. I only use the ZR1 for local driving, no roll racing and usually with the wife aboard (she only road with me in the track car once. She promised the second time will never happen. I don't understand it, I never even hit 4th gear). For roll racing that doesn't involve 1st gear I think you would be surprised at the Invo's grip. Also they come in the stock 285 front size as well.
I have some Michelin Cup tires and a spare set of ZR1 rims but haven't had a chance to try them yet on the ZR1. Besides if they work well that will probably be the end of the wife riding with me in that car as well. See the pattern here? Good tires mean solo driving.

The ZR1 has probably 60-80 lb-ft more torque (at much lower rpm) than your built LS7 and that is probably why it doesn't hook hook with the 7-8 year old Michelins. Anyone that has run both Invos and PS2s or PSS on the same car will tell you the Invos have little grip. They are low cost, low noise, nice ride and good tread wear, but not high in the grip department.

The cup2 is a fantastic all around tire and the only really good option for stock stagger wheel sizes.

Dave,
I haven't been overly impressed on the Michelin's PSS grip, even on my stock 427 convertible. I have a set of Michelin Cups on the satin cup wheels. Have to switch them out for some adhesion tests when the weather warms up next summer. Too cold in CT for good testing except in summer and very early fall. Wish I had experimented more last summer. Thanks for the info from a knowledgeable member. Always enjoy your posts.

Our cars have more power than even ultra high performance street tires like the PSS can hold.

In stock form I have run my Z06 on road courses on worn out OEM Goodyears, new Nitto NT05s and PSS. Each had much more grip that the prior tires. On a local double round about the NT05s pulled .93 and .97 G. The PSS with 15 miles on them pulled 1.12G in both.

I have run the car in stock form and as an HCI car with R888s, a DOT legal track tire and it had far more grip than the NT05s or the PSS, but then it is not really a street tire, it is just streetable, so I can drive a few hundred miles to and from road course events on them.

In HCI form even my MT ET SS in 325/30-19 size will not hook in 1st gear, and those are grippy drag radials.

The throttle on our cars cannot be used as an on/off switch, the right foot has to have some smarts for effective operation.

I appreciate your comments about me, thanks

For God's sake, don't go after Continental ExtremeContact Sports. I've been on the backorder waiting list for over 2 months without any sign of incoming stock.

Sadly, it's one of the only non-RF you can even find in the ZR's size.

Just noticed that Tirerack is now listing the new Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+ ZP in ZR1 sizes, 285/30ZR19 and 335/25ZR20. 500 UTQG, AA traction and A temperature. Interesting how they compare to the Pilot Super Sport ZP's with 300 UTCG and AA/A ratings. The new A/S 3+ Zp's are a little less expensive, too. Nice to see more options in these sizes!

Yep. There are several threads discussing those tires and the excitement of their "rollout" but I think they came out late in the year last year, so there aren't many reviews of them. And you nailed the exact question many have - how do they compare to the SS ZPs. There is no doubt they will perform better in cooler temps, but the question in my mind is: at what warm season temperature, if any, does the SS become the superior tire, if at all?
