Default Considering a 2008 ZO6.

It has 44,000 one owner miles. Black on black. Totally stock. Asking price is $34,500. I have a C4 so I’ve gotten my hands dirty. What should i look out for? Any specific problems for this year/model? Thanks in advance.

In general, most years are very similar...nothing specific to look out for on an '08. But...

Read up on the valve guide issues (affects all years).
Research if any of the misc recalls/TSB's have been done.
When were fluids last freshened up (is clutch and/or brake fluid black?, coolant is 5yrs/100K, etc.)?
How old are tires, brakes?
Check underside of rockers for damage.

I would offer a bit less if it sounds good, runs good, and looks good. Definitely look into the valve guide issue. I think the engine is likely OK if it has made it that far without a problem, but you should probably at least have the valve guides checked.
Of course tires are pretty expensive.
Overall they are absolutely awesome cars and you will love it if you like high performance cars. Most likely one test drive and you will be hooked.

I paid that much with half the miles (2007 though). Only problem was rocker was scratched up on passenger side. Everything else was stock besides muffler mod and some decals.

Clutch fluid will be black (check ranger method) and valves need to be addressed ($3k fix or warranty) and probably oil change unless theres a record of a recent one.

$34,500 is a good price... Maybe a tad high for the miles... As Mike (MTPZ06) said. Tires, valve guides etc are all negotiating tools. I too have a black 08Z06. $31K cash would be a steal....

I paid $36K for an extra clean 2008 Z06 with 23K miles on it back in Feb, dealership mind you. Light mods included were Akra Evo exhaust system, K&N CAI, Mild 2 Wild remote, new tires all the way around and heads NOT addressed. A 2008 with 44K on it with no head work and being winter, Indiana for me, I would offer $32K and start there, assuming all mechanics checked out. I bought mine at a Jeep Dealership in Alabama, 600 mile on way trip and paid to have it inspected by a GM dealership in their area before I made the trip. GM gave me a detailed report of condition of brakes and tire measurements, including mechanics. I could have paid to have had the heads inspected, but decided to save the money and just have them replaced anyway. Since then I have addressed the heads with AHP heads, Did the work myself, there is a great write-up on this forum, took care of all my fluid change needs and added B&B headers with a tune. I have added 5K miles since then with no regrets.

I would say do your own research before you spend thousands of dollars on new heads. You might decide to check your valves, or do nothing at all.

I think one owner is key. eyeball that owner.. Is he one who drives a car hard when the oil is cold? Because it takes 20 minutes to get a 08Z warm...

Eyeball that guy............ ; )

That's a TON of car for that price, but I suppose it is now market value.

You are onto something with a one owner car. That's what I would look for too..

If it feels right, buy it, then check the valves (wiggle test). The cost of testing and even replacing the heads is still worth every penny.

Default Me too

I want to trade my 2005 Z51 72,000 mile in on a 2008 Z06 with 26,000 mile all stock priced at 34,500. Black/black 6 speed with black rims sharp clean as new. Trade with TTL out the door is $20,000

The head problem is the only reason I hesitate. I would like to have heads done with headers and full exhaust. I think that would be @ $5,000 more.

Just scared of the 427 heads. Any thoughts

Not a bad price on the Z. Address the heads, worry about the exhaust later. Car is plenty fast for most in stock form.

Heads are less than $5,000 depending on who you buy from and who does the work.

The 427 is one of the best LS engines GM ever built (once you get the heads squared away that is). Not much else out there that can offer in N/A form what the LS7 can....

I wouldn't get too caught up on the price, it seems like it's a fair number. People on here are always looking to get the car for the lowest price possible, and will always tell you you're paying too much. With that said, I think the price point you're at is about right, but the most important thing is the condition of the car and how it was maintained.

For example, I paid 36.5k for my 2006 with 15k miles on it a little less than a year ago. The car was immaculate, the owner of it was a master tech, car was completely stock, never saw the track, and was meticulously taken care of. Maybe I paid a couple thousand higher than some other people have paid for 06's with similar miles, but I knew the car I was getting was extremely well taken care of and that was worth spending a couple bucks more.

Like other have said, look into getting the heads addressed and then go enjoy the car. It is 100% the best bang for your buck. I had my heads done almost right after I bought it for peace of mine. You will get some mixed opinions about the heads on here but the general consensus is to get them done for peace of mind. I went that route and am very glad I did.

Agreed - - bought a 2007 two years ago with 20k miles for $37.5 and had the heads addressed right away...of course - couldn't stop there and did the intake, cam, throttle body, headers, etc. for $10k total bill. Car was fast before and an animal now. Best bang for the buck out there. Good deal but would love if you found one for the same price with half the miles...these cars do develop rattles and squeaks as the miles add up. Either way - get the heads checked and go have some fun!!
