0 oil pressure after head swap
hey guys did a head swap and my gauge showed me 0 oil pressure the sending unit is on I made sure three times. I turned the car on 4 times 5-7 seconds each time and revved it a little no pressure still. Car was sitting open for 3 months heads off and filter off and oil plugs out completely drained even the return lines took 10qts to fill. Car started on the dot and held idle real well it doesn’t have a serious change in sound of metal clacking. I head I was suppose to maybe crank it 30 seconds idk picnhed a wire? It’s at Starkweather performance now theyre going to put a mechanical gauge to check. I never check the digital gauge I heard if it says XXX it’s a faulty sensor. Idk please help im anxious to get this beast on the road.
thanks in advance guys

Should always prime the system before you start the car after draining completely. Mechanical gauge will tell you if you have a bad sending unit, or broken wire, etc.

Probably not too late but it's not good for bearings and journals. I have always cranked with no fire (no fuel) to get my psi before giving it a go.
Nothing other then heads? Id bet on a sending unit and that the engine is getting oil.

I did a cam 3.5k miles ago but was working fine before tore it down. Added a msd NW102 also and changed to billy boat headers. And a 108 haltech instead of 103.
thanks for the help guys I do see there is a cut on the fire wall behind the sensor like the person before did it to access it through the windshield wiper area.
thanks guys for every little help you can give, very sad when I saw 0psi and had to go home 100 miles with no z06

How do you do this on the c6 where you push the button and the car stops cranking when it fires?
i assume pulling fuel pump fuse/relay would keep it from starting right?
How do you then get it to stop cranking?

Hold the gas pedal all the way to the floor and the car will crank but not fire. Hit the button again to stop cranking once you see the oil pressure has built up.

$100 says you knocked the sending unit off when you put the intake back on. Pull intake off and check.
Don't feel bad, I did the same thing. Scared the poop out of me. You should have pressure almost instantly and if the car has been running 5-7 seconds a time or two, you definitely should.

Go to Autozone and get a replacement sensor and swap it out or go to home depot and get the appropriate threaded fittings to adapt an air hose to the oil pressure sensor - set the regulator to 50 psi and key up the DIC in ACC mode and see what it reads. I had an OEM sensor die going down the road about 15 miles into a break in of a new longblock and almost died on the inside. I had it towed home on a roll back and used the method above to verify the failed sensor. Best of luck.

thanks brother appreciate it all, I’m gonna try the priming method then use a mechanical gauge than this.

Dont see how you couldnt have pressure. If you did a cam swap you could have torn the oil pump gasket which could cause issues but seeing as how you didn't my money is still on a faulty/unplugged sensor

Good point but he said he added 10 qts of oil and if he had a line or a oil plug off there would be oil on the ground. He said there was no clacking when it was running so I think there is oil pressure and its just a sensor, wire, or ground lug not put back. But you never know.
