Default 427 Vert watch-outs?

I'm eyeing the 427Vert as the next toy. LS7 sound&fury + the open experience is tough to beat, and prices are coming down to my range.

Known watch outs:
- Heads. Simple test and known repair path. I can do this myself if not already done.
- Bearings/Rods. Supposedly affect 25%+ of 2013 LS7’s. I don’t know how to check or prepare for this, other than purchasing extended warranties forever.

Anything else? issues with top, chassis, electronics, etc? Advice on what to look for when inspecting a used vehicle?

This one in NJ, 41k miles $32k is a smoking deal. 'Lemon History' is a ding I'd like to know what the issues were. I don't care if something simple had problems but a major issue would mean 'run away'.

thanks in advance!

You've already listed the two big issues, so aside from that...nothing I'm really aware of that would cause any real heartburn.

As for that particular car...with 41K miles, the bearing issue wont be a problem. The vast majority of those failures occur below 10K miles...most in the 5-7K range that I've seen.

I love my 427! I would say at least 25% have bearing issues and is more concerning to me that the heads, but under warranty you won’t have any issues. One member posted they replaced his motor with a Camaro 427 motor that has different bearings. Still you can’t be the car driving with the top down!

^^ thanks, I did see the previous thread about a member getting a Camaro engine under warranty, 3 weeks into ownership no less.

I would do heads for sure, headers, maybe an x-pipe, CAI, safe tune and call it a day; not really concerned about heads as long as the engine doesn't grenade on the drive back from wherever I buy it

Awesome black 427!! That is my preferred color. The white is gorgeous but I can't get on board with the blue top/trim.

Lemon Law buyback makes it a better deal. Longer you keep it the less it matters.

I'm the one that blew the engine a few weeks after taking delivery. I've owned several sports/exotic sports cars, and this is a beast. Idles and cruises like a civilized street car, but mash the pedal to bring out the beast. But if you have lead free bearings, which you do, be prepared for a rod bearing failure. Other than that small problem Mrs. Lincoln, and the terrible seats, I love the car.

Thank you all

I'm prepared to replace seats, $1k for a nice set of Corbeaus is do-able.

Being prepared to replace an LS7 shortblock... hmmm, probably 8-10k if I have to foot the bill myself - that is food for thought! I saw your thread Bee Jay and cringed when I read it. Glad you still love the car!

Beautiful cars though, and the exclusivity appeals to me as well

Default 427 Vert

Have owned two C6 powered by the LS3. The LS7 Vert is a big step up. No issues. Smooth, powerful & classy. What a rush!
