Broken Valve/Spring on 2 day old GM Certified ZO6
Hey all. I wanted to reach out to the forums to get your guys opinions.
I just purchased a GM Certified 2008 ZO6 with 12k miles on it Friday night. I was driving back from a wedding on Sunday morning and the car began to sputter and just died.
The dealer that I had it towed to took apart the engine and said that there was a broken valve spring and a possibly bent valve.
It's still under warranty and GM certified offers a 3day/150 mile satisfaction guarantee. Do you all think I should return the car or have it repaired? Has anyone else encountered this particular issue or know anyone that has, and have they had more problems since?
Thanks for your help!

Here we go again.
If you are legit (first post from brand new member), then get it fixed. No $$ out of your pocket. What Dealer has your car now?

What's not to like about that?
However there've been a few CF members who've had the same issue as you, broken valve etc.
Stuff happens with anything mechanical, is why there're warranties so take good advantage of it.
Good luck.

Certified doesn't mean ****. I purchased a GM certified used vehicle that came with an extended 5yr/60k mile warranty. In the first 30 days of owning the car, it went to 7 different shops to diagnose a noise/problem with the front end. It ended up getting new wheel hubs/bearings at all 4 corners, 4 new tires, one new wheel, steering column.
It's a great marketing tool though isn't it? I bet you bought it cause it was "certified".
Just my .03 cents...

Its highly likely they will be able to repair it with no lasting affects. Make sure they verify the piston wasn't damaged to the point that it might come apart later on.
I had the same thing happen on an old BB Corvette. Just driving along and the engine swallowed a valve. Luckily, just like you the valve was bent and there was no further damage to the engine. The dealer removed the head and sent it out to a machine shop to get the valve removed from the head, replaced the valve and valve spring and I drove the car another 20K miles after that.

return it... if they swap motors it loses value from having a replacement motor, if they fix it, will the fix it right?

This my 3rd Vette and I've never had a problem or dilemma like this. If the had offered me a new LS7 I would have likely gone for it. My only concern is whether I'll have more problems with the engine down the road. It's now at Criswell Chevy in Gaithersburg MD but what really sucks is that I just bought this car and now I won't be able to drive it for most likely a week or so.

And that's what warranties are for. Just be thankful you have a warranty, are 100% stock and you weren't at the track. You are 100% stock right?

100% stock cars have had their warranties void or a motor repair nor approved.
I would of like to see the piston myself before signing off on just a repair.

return it, why wait a month for these yahoos to repair the car...
are they going to pay you for that month? i dont think so!
let them worry about it while you go get another ride

If this is all truly legit - you won't have that car back in a week. I'll almost guarantee it.
Good luck - I hope it all works out for you.

If it is a repair I would return it just so I don't have to go through the hassel of getting it repaired and any follow up visits it may require. Although, if they were to offer a new engine I would keep the car.

Wont be that easy to return, if it is let them keep it. They will guarantee you it will be as good as new. Problem is in your head every time you mash the pedal,or hear a little something it will get you thinking "oh no" ive been there and done that. Let it go

Depending what state you are located in returns can be a problem. There could be issues with the DMV, the loan company (if you have a loan) and maybe the sales tax people. Not like returning a coffee maker.
