Default Has anyone tried vr1 20w50 oil in ls7

Just curious because i had a 2010 Camaro w/ls3 and did a cam swap and changed push rods and it did have louder valve train noise so i started running the VR1 and it did quiet down the noise and no cats by the way. My car does have aftermarket cam...like the b3 cam RPM uses and the heads appear to have been done ...no paper work car was bought at auction.

Where do you live (climate-wise)? Is the car mainly a track car? Mainly Street? That's heavy oil IMO unless the car lives at the track. I'm running M1 0-40 Euro spec right now (w/ZDDP). May go to Amsoil 5-30 Sig Series next oil change...but I'm street driven.

My buddy uses 15w-50 Mobil 1 in his and it's daily driven. Mostly quarter-mile stuff when it's raced.

I live in NC and do not track car at all so jayyyw ...does he have cats on because i have seen that some say that these type of oils clog up the cats? How is the valve train noise in your cars?

ZDDP can diminish the useful lifespan (efficiency of cats) over time, but it shouldn't clog a cat. If your car has tons of blow by and consumes 1 qt of oil every 500 miles, it will certainly accelerate the untimely death of your cats...but I'd say you have other issues to address.

Was over the C7 forum and turns out Mobil1 has a new 0W-40 ESP dexos2 coming out soon, available now at the dealers, and will be the factory fill on all 2019 Corvette's.

At about the 4:40 minute mark in this video below, they say the oil will be able to be used in all previous Corvette's who called for a dexos rated oil.

No cats on his car.. I just changed over to 10w-40 Rotella and noticed my valvetrain got a little quieter. Whether or not its from the oil itself, I don't know.
