Default What coilovers?

Looking into coilovers for my 08 z06. Currently on stock bolts all the way down with the bushings cut. Front sits a bit higher than rear which I would like to correct:

Ive been looking at Viking and some ebay ones (BC racing, Stance etc). Car is mostly a street warrior but I would also be interested in reducing my 60ft times when it sees the drag strip a few times a year. Also see that doug rippie motorsports has a set? Are c5 and c6 coilovers interchangeable?

Post up your pictures, thoughts, opinions etc.

Ugh I'm in the same boat, but the drawbacks of coilovers has me sticking with lowered OEM bolts.

Have you considered drop spindles instead?

I was planning on running lg gt2 coilovers. I cut my lower bolts but ended up raising car back up to where stock bolts would be lowered. I have always had my car as low as possible but with Nitto NT05R I’m getting rubbing issues

I am a C5 owner but I will give you guys some quick info about what I have & have researched, I will just do some short info & will add more as I have time & if more info is requested.

C5 & C6 coilovers are same 1997-2013

Some ride heights are adjusted using the spring preload, most of these are set at 1"-1-1/4" drop, too far out of this range & you lose shock stroke length.

Some have adjustable shock bodies, you can raise or lower your car but does not change the shock stroke.

Check the spring rates, some are not street friendly, some have options, some do not, their ride adjustments are designed for that specific spring rate.

Not all have ride adjustment ***** that are accessible, some you have to drill holes in your car & others you need to remove the coilover to adjust.

Warranties range from 1yr to lifetime, I think most are rebuildable.

I have drop spindles & all the way down on stock bolts about 2" total with excellent ride quality, I ordered a set of coilovers but did not research properly & found out the coilovers had specific drop & my car was too low, adjusting out of the specific drop put my shock stroke out of range which is usually 40-60% of total stroke. I sold those & started more detailed research looking at all the options I could find.

I will post these pictures of my front stock shocks, I wanted to see what lowering does to your shock stroke, these may or may not be same as C6 but gives you some idea what happens, and there are other issues that are affected, bumpsteer & neg camber.

SHOCK FULL STROKE WHEN OUT OF THE CAR, BUMP STOP IS 1-1/8" THICK LEAVING 3.75" STROKE

FRONT BOLT ALL THE WAY DOWN, STOCK BUSHING HEIGHT, 23MM OR .906, WITH THE DROP SPINDLES MY CAR HAS ABOUT 2" DROP, I SHOULD ADD THIS IS SAME AS 1" DROP ON STOCK SPINDLE

2" TOTAL DROP WITHOUT DROP SPINDLES, SOME COILOVERS MAY LOOK LIKE THIS IF YOU SET THEM OUT OF THE SPECIFIC DROP

Here is some info & pictures, and not to say if one is better than the other.

RIDETECH HQ
I will start here as I had a set but did not work with my drop spindles.

Hyperco springs 425/550 rates
1.25" drop they recommend to stay in the 40-60% shock stroke range.
Delrin top mount front, spherical bearing on all the other mounts.
Stainless brackets.
Single adjustable ride.
Lifetime warranty on shock.
TQ series also available.

LG GT
Do not have info on rates but options are available, Hyperco or Eibach
Specific drop, instructions says .600-1"
No adjustable base, so height is changed with spring preload.
Spherical bearing & solid mounts.
Single adjustable ride.

LG GT2
One of my replacement choices but did not like the spring rates.

Looks like Eibach springs 600/600 no options as rate is designed to work with ride adjustments.
Adjustable base, do not know specs, said you can raise back to stock height if wanted.
Will work with their drop spindles.
Remote cable for rear ride adjustment.
Spherical bearing & solid mounts.
Single adjustable ride.
I think the LG's warranty is 1yr.

STANCE XR-1

420/560 rates, Swift spring upgrade available.
Adjustable base, do not know specs.
Pillowball front mount but requires you use your original rubber as well, rear mount says rubber, not sure what lower front mount is, rubber or poly.
Single adjustable ride, have to remove rear shock to adjust or drill hole not sure where they said.
2yr warranty

BC RACING BR & DR/DS
I have a set of DR/DS on order will arrive Tuesday.

392/560 rates, Swift spring upgrade available.
BR 2" springs, DR/DS 2-1/2" springs.
DR/DS has larger shock body.
Inverted shock options available, DR/DS front is std inverted
Adjustable base, do not know specs.
Single adjustable ride.
Pillow ball mount top F & R, front uses stock rubber, I plan to use poly, not sure about rear. lower front looks like poly.
1yr warranty
No picture available from manufacturer, pictured is the BR rear could not find a front, Taylor Ray on Youtube has installs for the BR & DR/DS on a C5, better views on there, 2nd video shows difference between BR & DR/DS

Wow, great write-up, and I'm not even in the market for coil-overs! Thanks.

I believe the LG GT2 have 550/550 spring rates. And IMO, anything with a lower up front spring rate than the rear is just for street cruising/Sunday drives.
