Default engine cover removal?

How do you guys remove the driver's side engine cover on a C6Z w/o removing the braided hose? I assume that is why the cover is slotted, but it is not obvious to me how to do it w/o breaking the cover.

just pull on it and it will pop off the rubber tabs and you can twist it out the covers arent that fragile, you can spread it quite a bit without it breaking!

Popping the cover off was the easy part, but twisting it out does not seem intuitive.....it seems as though the cover will break, but I will give it another shot and report back.

Ok, I just kept twisting and the braided hose popped into the cover slot, then it was just a matter of keeping the slot open a bit more and persuading the braided hose all the way out. The cover was still hanging up on the vacuum connection (90 degree elbow/hose combo), but I just lifted the cover over/around it.

Thanks for the encouragement Jw!

It is much easier to get off if it is warm from the engine running. Drive the car to normal temp, park it and take off the cover.

I echo the answers here. I just took mine off yesterday. Anyone know what fluid runs in the braided hose?

That is a fuel line. Simply remove it in 3 seconds with one of these tools and make your life so much easier. I assure you that you can perform this simple procedure.

Great tip. Those tools are cheap and good to have around.

Fyi I used a dremel and cut off that little tab piece that sticks out under the opening for the fuel line on the driver side cover. Makes it much easier to get off and on. No one sees it anyway.

I would agree with AzDave47 that it will come off easier when warm. A friend of mine (Forum member) took his off in very cold weather and it cracked.

Well, now that I have the covers off, I'm thinking of leaving them off permanently. I mostly do track days with the car, so unless I am overlooking something, leaving the covers off should not be a problem.

Mine have been off for a long, long time. There is no negative performance impact of having them off. Most guys at the track have long removed them. They are for show and maybe make the valve train a little quieter. Ditch them, they are terrible plastic pieces of crap anyhow.

I took them off aand left them off mine as I didn't want the heat buildup under the covers with my HCI setup or before when OEM and do road course events. I now have an LG WC vented hood which helps more to dissipate the under hood heat. I haven't driven or parked it outside in heavy rain, but most everything under there should be reasonably waterproof.
